Whilst these cars are under a Thread "Another Kirkham for sale" they are in fact not Kirkham supplied cars. And not a Kirkham...
I have a Kirkham and would love to see the prices for Kirkhams at this high end, but unfortunately or fortunately, a buyer is paying for a continuation genuine built Shelby with a CSX plaque and a CSX number from Shelby's shop.
It is the buyers call if they want the plaque and the CSX number and possibly the higher value and price - this has and could be argued at length on the value of having a continuation Shelby car..
Whilst the body was supplied - as every aluminium one is - from Kirkham to Shelby the cars are then given the CSX number and the 90mm x 45mm dash plaque with the CSX number by Shelby and painted and finished there at Shelby.
When I was at Shelby I asked about a brushed aluminium car and Shelby did not want to supply the car in brushed aluminium but told me their workshop always painted as the bodies were supplied in file finish ready for filler coats and paint.
The cars are at Duttons in Melbourne, Richmond. I can only guess that the aluminium bare car was supplied un finished and was brushed off site - that is unless Shelby changed their policy and sold this car in brushed.
Jeff Dutton is the best person to talk with. Jeff knows the full detailed history of both cars and also is a friend of David Rodd. David has a number of high end cars, I am not sure why he is selling this car.
He does have a CSX numbered early red slab side Cobra still I believe.
Both cars have been supplied by Shelby according to the sales guy I spoke too. Both have the continuation CSX numbers and paperwork.
Further information can be obtained from the Shelby register.
The keeper of the register is Ned Scudder in San Diego California. He is NedSel on the Forum.
I will be in San Diego next week and could follow up.
Sorry if this is a bit confusing..
Send me a PM and we can talk on the phone as I am in Paris now.
Bernie

Bernie
Thank you for the information.
I've been speaking to Jeff and as always he is doing his best.
It's simply to do with registration at this point in time. If we get that sorted then we can get somewhere.
WA is pretty reasonable with regards to Licencing and I've got the wise heads working out what to do.
The Shelby issue is an interesting point. For me it's more to do with whether or not the cars have metal bodies, not glass, at least for now, and I appreciate your advice.

Hi Bernie and Simon
I've seen that polished car and I'm pretty sure it had KMS vin # and the shelby dash plate shown is unstamped with a chassis number.
Duttons have also advertised it as a kirkham and they know the extra $ a shelby commands new. If it were a shelby I'm sure they would have advertised it as such.
The ask is $229k. Considering recent price increases at kirkhams, aus$/usd$ exchange rate and a currently 12m+ wait time for a new one, in addition to the risk of paying out money in advance with no immediate exchange of goods. Maybe $200K+ is reasonable for the buyer who wants it now.
In any case it will be interesting to see what the market will pay for a brushed/polished kirkham on "H plates".

I can't begin to imagine the drama of maintaining a polished bronze car. More difficult than alloy and slightly easier than their copper cars?
Anyway, I love it! Bernie, I think it's the only bronze 289 car. There are some other 427s.
Here's the build: Kirkham 289 Bronze build
Darren the seller is also the current owner of the flip-top polished Kirkham that has a 427SOHC, which he then replaced with a Coyote motor to go and thrash around the track! He has had some incredible Cobras over the years.

12 or 13 different builds I believe. His flip top with cammer was my inspiration for a cammer.

OMFG.
That is nuts, in retrospect, not a lot of coin for what it is.
Would look awesome in any garage.
And the picture when it's cornering, sits so flat with zero body roll, and driver sits nice and low, almost invisible.

Hahaha, always a comedian around here somewhere. In fact, that photo looks like it has a bit too much steering lock that far into the corner. It must understeer...!
Damage, yep it's my favourite Cobra topic ever. For those who haven't read it, you really should register over at www.cobraregistry.com so you can see the photos of the second phase of the build KMP 259 Phase 2
It's a cool website too. The owner of the bronze Cobra runs the site.
