thanks Simon, if I had of bothered to look and seen them so local (same suburb!) I would have gone there. Instead I got Granatelli Motorsports leads, solid stainless cores, makes your coffee for you, comes with BJ, etc etc. WTF knows if they're any good, we'll see!

'Cept one of my leads melted last week

Need to take them around to ICE to check the others. I think they're a bit long, as we modelled them on your engine Sime, and they're not optimal on my setup.

quick update, the engine/trans and new clutch are all in and we're driving again, so far so good. The pedal is nice a bit lighter, the shift is certainly much better.

Also had all the heat shields and headers re-coated and all back together, my extra heat shield over the cat has made a huge difference to under-bonnet temps, whereas before the master cylinder area (directly over the cat) has getting hugely hot, the cylinders are now barely warm to the touch after driving.

Also changed springs, went from 425lb->550 in the back and 375->425 in the front. The rear was way to soft before with far to much squat. Will see how this goes at Wakefield, initial impressions are that it is actually more comfortable (?) with the stiffer rear, although traction is reduced. Hopefully this will help reduce the low-speed understeer that I was getting on the track.

Also added the new Granatelli plug leads and kevlar protection boots for them.

In a most important update, I now have cup holders too.

Also booked in to get a tonneau cover made next week.

Keen to hear report on rear springs, I have always felt mine is too soft in the back.

This isn't relevant to your threads Mods but would you believe my rear springs are 900lbs and my fronts 650lbs. No wonder I have bulging lower discs.

There was one particular corner at MP (Turn 5) that I had HUGE understeer on. I sent the footage to Paul S and on review found not enough trail breaking into corner to get the weight over the front. Needed to brake later and carry it through the turn and then power out.

What corner/s were you getting US at WP. The fish hook?

Didn't really notice the understeer at Wakefield last year, the car was so new and it was all a bit tentative. However at Winton earlier this year I was going for it more and around the tits at the back it was woeful, particularly the last right-hander before the short blast towards the back straight.

It'll be good to see how it goes this year at WP then compared to what you had as a set up last year.

When I had my old Avo shocks I drove down the bluestone alleyway behind my work and nearly lost all my teeth. Same springs but different shocks (QA1's) and it was much nicer. :-)

Here are some pics.

the last two pics are because my handbrake cable broke. It seems the place that made the cable did what looks like a hand-solder job on the end that hooks into the handbrake lever, and that eventually failed.

The 1st of the last two pics shows the failed end. The 2nd of the last two pics shows the machine-made welded end which is going in to fix it proper, like it should have been done the first time. I will withhold the name of the place that made the original (wasn't me!)

Somehow somewhere I summoned the strength to cut a few more holes in some fibreglass and we now have rear quick-jacks! The spacer's need a lick-o-paint still and I'm thinking about appearance of what bolt type to use on the outside. Traditional appears to be a high-tensile imperial hex-head but I think I like the idea of a stainless cap screw if I can get them long enough.

Also some rubber seal around the boot and bonnet to keep out the water and stop the shakes and rattles

And the boot stay went in, which means my trusty old cob-web brush goes back to sweeping cob-webs!

Have a look for some stainless acorn nuts for your quick jacks. Should be able to find them the the right thread to suit. They polish up nice too.

Cheers

Hi Modena, interested how you measured up the positions of the holes for the quick jacks before you drilled them.
Cheers,
George

The blog link in his posts are an excellent read and these were covered in here. However I am all for another update and description as I like reading how things are problem solved.

Hi George,
I did a "How to" on here a while back which might help with the quick jack hole location for you.
Dave's CR3514 Progress

Looking great Ben, Where did you get the boot strut ? I don't like the position of the gas struts and was looking for something a bit different.
I thought the toilet brush was a passenger accessory.

cheers
Dave

Well done Ben. It's good to see we won't see any more cobwebs in the man cave. :-)

I did think about the quicks jacks too as I like the look of them but I am so clumsy I would have taken out a knee or cut my head on them whilst getting out from under the car so went for the other option.

Cheers Gregg
