The sprints and AP lap are up on Natsoft, but no sign of the other events yet (apart from the raffle!)

Just a slight diversion......Does anyone have or know of Cobra Nationals results and placings from 2001 and 2002. My Cob has two National Badges on firewall from those years. I have searched online but can't find any info from that time.
Couldn't make it to the Nationals this year but hope to make it next year. The photos look great and the atmosphere there must be even better!

I now have the results but they are currently in XPS format and not compatible with the web site. Trying to covert to PDF so we can upload.
I will let you know when they are up.
Thanks,
Kim

Geoff Taunton from Queensland.....despite a last minute change to exhaust system ( different muffler to keep the noise down), robbing about 70 h.p., he still managed some very tidy 1m01sec laps.....not too shabby I'd say.

Stirring video. I nearly fell off my chair when Geoff opened it up to commence his first timed lap.
The performance of this car brought back memories of Gary Walther's sublime yellow racer. What a shame it's languishing away and not being exercised regularly. How did Gary's times compare to Geoff's at Wakefield Park? Did he get under the minute?

Following on from the last post -- and I'm just thinking aloud here -- but if Brett isn't doing much with the yellow car, would he perhaps be amenable to some sort of lease arrangement for next year's Nats? If he's not planning on running himself? There are plenty of examples within the club of shared drives and while this approach would be slightly different for us, it happens all the time around the world in historic racing.
This might be thought by some to be pie in the sky stuff, and next year's Nats are a long way away but the car is too much a piece of Qld Cobra Club folk lore to be left idle for such a long time. I'm thinking a Club garage day or two or three to get it back in condition and then a "sponsorship" drive among members, subsidized to some extent if necessary from Club funds to meet entry and running costs, and then nominate a driver to do the honours. There are three or four guys in the racer ranks who could be relied upon to treat the car with the respect it deserves and not engage in any balls-out silliness who could be either voted in by members or else nominated by Brett himself.
I know there would be all sorts of ramifications in the event of something unfortunate happening -- which is why it would be vital to select the right driver -- but even if this car were driven at 80% by someone like, for instance Chunky Sneaky Ash Scotty Wayne and dare I say it Wazza, it would be a sight to see next year.
Maybe I'm dreaming and maybe Brett will be on here in a flash telling me what I can do with my crazy idea, but really is it so crazy? A fabulous car, a proven driver, a "club" entry so that we're all involved financially and emotionally to some extent -- it just could work. We just need to ask the question... and should we not get the answer we want, then we naturally accept Brett's decision with absolute good grace.

Gary Walther only ever came to one Nationals...2008...and managed a very quick 1.02.814 secs.
Bloody impressive for his first time ever on the track.
Geof's 1m.01.227 secs is flying...but I've no doubt with that extra 70 h.p. back under him, and a bit more tweaking ( It's a fairly new car)...
59secs are on the cards for next year...
There ya go Geof...No pressure !!
We had 101 entries in 2008, wouldn't that be great to see again next year and beyond?....
And looking at a lot of those who were doing 1m.09secs - 1m.11secs in 2008 ,
(which was considered BLOODY quick for this type of car)
The same guys are now getting around in approx 1m.05 secs times.
Better tyres help....but skill levels are always improving as well.
Already looking forward to Nationals 2015 !
Cheers,
Warren

Glad I didn't make your list Don.
Renting in essence a V8 Supercar with cobra body from a fairly stoutly shaped policeman who goes by the name of pyscho to his mates doesn't really entice me to wanna drive it anyway!

eh Don.... seeing as though we're talking about a piece of Qld Cobra Club folk lore with 11 months and 1 week to go till next year I think its well time you and that son of yours BOTH did the journey and competed. It's got to be on your bucket list surely?

The only nationals I've made it to was with my XY, and I wasn't able to run it myself down the runway (no racing license) so Kev Horner drove it...
Yep, you're right though; I need to get out onto the track and learn how to drive properly. Shame I sold my fun Cobra recently. The other one is more powerful but doesn't handle as well. That seems to be a recurring theme for cars I've owned...

I was there in 08 as a spectator and spent some time in garys garage checking out the car and to see walthers weapon run along with most of you guys, it certainly had a killer engine and all the goodies for that time, wasnt it just a NA 363 Ford, i remember him saying at the dinner that the car could easily break the 1 minute time, but it was his driving skills that were not up to par, imagine with steady improvement over the years what that car might achieve. i think that car is still the benchmark.
