to the people building pace cobras
hi all
I was just wondering what sort of budgets people are allowing for there build to hit the road just a ball park fig will do . and what stage are you buying your kits at ie just the body and chassis kit or a full roller .
im just wondering what it would cost to put one of these babys on the road .

Hi Deano, I am building a Pace with a tremec 6 speed and 427 Ford crate motor. If you pm me I have a reasonably good spread sheet of actual and projected costs. The final cost will decided on the options you choose and the work you undertake.

Whatever your calculations tell you...
Make sure you add 10% "fark up factor..."
And a further 10% "miscellaneous spends"
That should get you closer to the actual cost.

Dean,
My assembled rolling chassis with the Trigo 15" knock-off wheels, M/T tyres, Steering wheel and LSD with hardened gearset owes me just under $39K (that included the freight to get it to me).
I'm going to be running a new LSA supercharged 6.2. The overall complete cost of the LSA, transmission and engine controller package (believe it or not) is the same in the end as an vanilla LS3, trans and engine controller combo.
I'm buying the Pace comprehensive package using all new parts. The car on the road including engineering should cost approx. $75K complete with trimming and engineering, less paint.
Even though I own a bodyshop and will paint the car myself, I'm allowing $8-10K for paint (my body was one of the early ones and while the body is generally awesome, it still needs some bodywork/shaping before it can receive topcoat).
So...if you budget $85K all up, you should be good.

I am close to you Simon - $84,170. But that is with no paint - detailed body that is good enough gel coat to not need paint (for a rego at least...)
It does include the comprehensive kit, upgraded body, cutouts, engineer, shipping, rego, interior, a couple of grand for an auto electrician, etc etc
That is my guesstimate, anyway...

Definitely the latter!
Materials and overheads will run about $2-3K....the rest is in labour (my time and my employee's time). Our current shop labour rate is $100hr + GST so between removal/refitting of all parts, bodywork/correction, priming, blocking, priming, blocking (yes. two lots), painting/clearing (incl. Painted stripes) and coloursanding/polishing, I estimate there will easily be 80 hours in the job (but most likely a fair bit more).

Don't forget around 3k for first rego and stamp duty.

I run the same sort of system, but LS3 and Harrop 1900 supercharger through a TKO600.
Love the combination.
If I was doing my build again it would be a Pace without a doubt, love the look of the product.

Dean, have you got a copy of our packing lists for our various kit levels. The packing lists give you a lot of information on what is included and more importantly exactly what parts you need to build a PACE 427 or by extrapolation any Cobra.
You can just email us to get a copy.

no thing as club rego in SA they have historic rego and seasonal rego but your out of luck with club rego ..plus there is no way out of stamp duty either lol

True. You could also slash about 5k from the budget by not having to fit a late model injected engine. But I figure if you're spending 80k on a Cobra you probably want to realise its full value by getting full registration.

My attitude is sad..... I complain about the price of a dentists visit or the doctor consultation. Bits for the Cobra ..not a problem ! I stopped counting at $50,000.00 ..that was ages ago. In the meantime I've spent at least 25 -30 grand more. No problem !

I'm receipted for $K160 on the road. I've dream't about owning this car for 45 years. I knew every nut and bolt, colour and trim which would go into it I before I started the build. I went without so I could fulfill my dream. The great thing about this is that the money was spent over 4 years so I didn't miss it as much. I now have my beautiful Cobra. To me, it is far better than the Motorhome that my wife wanted to buy. When they put me in the box, this car will be funding my grand children's university eduction. That's why I wanted a 'Top Shelve' Cobra.
