It will make it look like your 2 year old made your exhaust out of play dough.

Yeah....I read that. It only adds 3/8" to the thickness of the exhaust pipe. 3/8" is not an insignificant thickness!

Progressing steadily on the exhaust fabrication.

The guys at Motorsport Engineering are doing a fabulous job on the stainless exhaust. I wanted a better alternative to the standard corrugated stainless coolant pipes I received with the Pace kit so I had the guys at Motorsport fabricate me some mandrel bent alternatives. Really happy with the way they've turned out. They are also welding a bleed nipple to the top of the radiator which will run to the overflow tank.

Everything should be completed by the end of this week.

They have done a nice job on fitting the Cats, and the new radiator lines look top notch.
Can't wait for first Start!

Thanks Dave. You and me both!!!

The cats are OEM Holden/HSV cats from my 2013 HSV R8 - obviously modified to fit. When the car was 2000km old, I put a full Walkinshaw system on my car incl high flow cats so I had these left over. They're basically brand new.

The fabricator (Andy) is ex-HSV and he called HSV a couple of weeks ago to speak with a former colleague who told him they tested a number of cats when they were developing the GTS and the only cats that would pass the IM240 test were these ones. So basically, all Holden/HSV VE/VF V8's, both NA and supercharged are running these cats. They're 400 cell items so I wonder how much extra power would be liberated if 200 cell cats ever found their way onto the car?!

Sounds like an excellent resource to have.

Just to check I am understanding this. The Cats you have fitted on your PACE 427 are what HSV use to get their engines to pass Euro 5 emissions standard.

Australia wide for registration we only need to meet ADR 37/01 emissions level which is an old USA emissions level that was used before Euro emissions. So ADR 37/01 is actually about 5 levels of emissions older than Euro 5. So significantly less stringent requirement when it comes to emissions levels.

So by fitting the factory Cats it should give you extremely good emissions result.

IM240 is the type of test, not level. I expect you know that, it is read like it wasn't for anyone else reading that is new to emissions.

Hi Craig,

Yes, I believe that HSV and Holden are using these very cats on the VF models to pass the current Euro 5 emissions.

And yes,the IM240 is a type of test. From what I understand you either pass it or fail it and you get one go. Retests incur a new $800 (roughly) testing fee. Every VIC and NSW ICV that is going for full rego has to take and pass this test. In Victoria,Vipac are the only ones who can administer the test.

Cheers
Sime

Here are some more pics of the undercar exhaust system. Really happy with the quality. It's staying at Motorsport engineering while they build Guy and David's system off my car. The car is now booked in with the engineer for January 13th and assuming it passes it will go to Vipac early the week after for the IM240 test.

I don't believe so Tony...but when you're ready, you could always kill three birds with one stone by bringing the Cobra to Melbourne on a car trailer and getting your exhaust made, body painted and interior trimmed in succession!

I know it sounds like a bit of a far-fetched idea, but if you had Pace build your Cobra as a rolling chassis and deliver it to Melbourne (rather than Tassie) then you bought a car trailer here for approx. $2500 new, you could then take the Cobra back to Tassie, build it to near-completion, then bring it back here for the finishing touches. Get it running here, drive it back on a temporary permit and sell the trailer in Melbourne. I could even be interested in buying the trailer from you plus I'd be happy to take your car to Tony for trimming.

Just a thought.

Happy to report that she's finally alive! Had a few small fuel leaks that I fixed and the squeal noise toward the end was an air pocket in the intercooler system that I have since bled and the noise is now gone.

The engine is nice and smooth but damn...are those fuel pumps noisy or what?!
