in a nutshell no you cant ...i had bad throttle lag in my ford ranger i mean really bad but you can buy a electronic device that plugs into the pedal only takes two min and you can dial out all the lag and it gives you instant throttle best 250 bucks ive ever spent you can buy the same device for dbw commodores as well if my cobra suffers any throttle lag i will be putting one of these on for sure .the ranger ones are called wind boosters but i reckon if you goggled throttle boosters they will come up ..

after a bit of experimenting im happy with the way my dbw works . the ve pedal is a bit of a bugga to mount as per the book so i did it my way good ole frankie there lol . i cut the footrest part off the pedal assembly and that left me with the plastic arm so i made a metal sleeve that slid over it took a few goes to get it right then i welded a small tab off the end of and drilled a hole for the linkage ball to bolt thru.
i them used epoxy resin mixed it up and poured it down the sleeve then pushed in the plastic arm from the pedal assembly it's pushed in around 45 mm i then drilled a hole and bolted it with a stainless steel nut and bolt and left it for 24 hrs to set

next day it had all set hard as a rock . i then mounted the pedal assembly on top of the alloy box that houses the master cylinders and hooked up the linkage from the tilton pedals using the bracket supplied by pace and the small linkage also supplied from pace .
i bolted it all down to the floor and it all works great there is no slop in the throttle pedal and it's tucked out the way .. next job to mount the drivers seat to see how it all feels

i have had a rethink on the dbw and have mounted it differently to those pics i will grabs some pics a little later to show how ive done it now . i havent done much the last few weeks as i got rear ended at a set of lights two cars behind me couldnt stop at a red light both those cars was written off and my ranger got a bent bumper no panel damage at all the car in the middle hit my towball and put a hole thru his engine block ..but ive been suffering from a sore back thats been giving me grief since .

however i have to roll bars mounted and the brackets ect ect all in place and have been bolted up so they can come off now and be put aside till needed now .

I sometimes think I should take the towbar and ball off my daily driver, but I know that the likelihood of getting belted from behind then goes way up!

Cheers,
Glen

hi all been a while since a update .
i put the diff centre in today and yes that alloy seal is a real bugga lol i had a friend visit so i took the opportunity to have him help he loved the idea so much he is coming tomorrow as well so hopefully get the rear end done and start on the tank ..
something had been bothering me for a while and i didnt know what to do as im running the 6 speed auto and keeping the tap up and down shift as well since the gear display was part of the donor cars dash how would i keep in touch with what gear i was in .

got hold of sideshow who done my engine loom and he said easy fix just buy one of these plugs into the ob port and one wire to power and it reads what gear your in thru the body control module all those sleepless nights for nothing lol.
Powertrain Control Solutions have brake lines in now as well will try and get the ful line and pumps in tomorrow if all goes well.

cheers dean

The aftermarket options for late model autos are great.
Have you fitted a Hi-stall converter?
You will need something as the standard converter will be designed for something much heavier than your car and will lock up waaaay too early.
I have a 2800rpm dominator converter with lock up in mine, it drives like an old statesman around town but livens up nicely when requested.

i haven't as yet but will talk with my trans guy a bit closer to when it's needed i run a 3200 dominator behind my trimatic in my dirt circuit car it cops a real flogging and works a treat , the ve the motor/box and diff came out with a 2.92 gearset but ive swapped the gears for a set of 3.27 that should liven it up a bit altho the ve i bought was running concern and was no slouch when i took it around the block b4 ripping the engine out of it all...all fun times ahead nothing so far has been a pain in the arse i printed off the 600 page manual and put it into 3 big folders all in plastic sleeves ..apart from a few bolts missing from the kit and the p clips that hold the brakelines in place all has been pretty easy to follow . talking with other blokes in there different stages of build helps as well bouncing different idea's off each other ..cheers dean

hi all
have been plodding away bit by bit i have been working on the compartment that goes in from the behind the seats. i had to modify it a fair bit as i had opted to run the rear sway bar and that fouled where the compartment sat .
i got around it by cutting the full lenght alloy that run right across the rear to just the with of the compartmen and lowered to over height of the compartment by 20 mm by doing this the sway bar goes over the top of the compartment and clears it so nothing fouls . took a bit of time to fig it out and i didnt want to cut the hole for the door till i was a 100% sure it would work. so if anyone is running the reat sway bar and wants the compartment as well it's pretty easy to do.. rest of the kit is going together really well no nasty surprises. everyone who has seen it is just blown away by the design im still in awe everytime i go out to the work area and look at it . will try and post some pics last time i tried i couldn't get them to play the game
cheers dean

have also done a bit of work on the engine i put a new sump gasket in as well as a new timing chain and tensioner harmonic balancer and seal . engine has only done 60.000 ks and did not show any signs of oil leaks but easier to do now than later also painted the engine while i was at it so now it's ready to drop in the chassis when the time comes .

Does your fly by wire throttle setup still look like it did in the photos above, or is there a new arrangement?

hi mike
no changed it the reason been i moved the master cylinders out further thru the firewall to gain some more leg room unfortunately there was not enough room to mount the dbw unit .
it's now mounted on the side i will snap a picture for you if you like .

here ya go i cut the arm shorter on the dbw unit and made a bracket out of square tube and welded a tab of it for the rod to connect to and epoxied and bolted that to the short plastic arm on the dbw unit.
connected the rod to the pedal and moved the dbw unit around till it all looked good and would give full throttle when the pedal was depressed i made a bracket out of angle iron and bolted the dbw unit to tat and then bolted the whole thing to the kick panel ..hope the pictures help

hi all
it seems since dave has taken delivery of his pace ally bodied cobra and working like a man possessed he has inspired or shamed many of us into getting stuck into our projects the way daves powering on he will have it done by christmas lol.

so i have been working on mine while im still inspired by dave . i have mounted the charcoal canister and line almost have the handbrake done . have put the driveshafts together and tidied up a few small jobs that needed doing.
next will be fitting the polished heat shields around where the engine sits than taken them off again to fit engine . hopefully have the engine in before Christmas then will start mounting the radiator and drop the body back on ..thats the plan hopefully
cheers dean

I have the same problem. So many things going on. I try not to beat myself up for it. I have the luxury that my wife works, but I have to look after my 3 year old. And that seems more important than anything. He loves playing around the shed with nuts and bolts. So after building cubby houses etc I am finally finished my Cobra and ready for the final inspection. I've managed to strangle my exhaust until it was quiet enough, but it's crying out for air.lol.

Do not beat your self up, I understand as I spend lots of time with my 5 yr old daughter. As much as I want to be doing car stuff, it will always be there, however I don't want to miss out on growing and development at the sake of some car thing.

Plus, the older she gets the better she is at getting me the right spanner/socket from the tool box when I am wedged under the cobra and can't be assed in shimming out.
