I wish mine had that. Sounds great. In the end with all the stuffing around, when I took it to Regency, they hardly checked anything at all. As long as your engineer has done all the reports and is happy with it, that all that mattered. The only thing he forgot to check was the front end bump steer, which they picked up on. In the end it wasn't a big deal.

just got the drivers side header on what a pain in the butt ..jacked engine up for more room slowly weave in the headers trying not to scratch 400 bucks of coating get them close slip in gasket get a couple of bolts started all the time wiping sweat out of my eyes cause it must be 50 degs in the carport .
get all bolts tight and lower motor back to line up mount and bingo we have a problem i cant fit the engine mount bolt as it fouls on a header tube by about 5 mm
jack up engine loosen off the header bolts pull exhaust out woulds a little lower motor and slide the engine mount bolt in then slowly do up the header bolts...all up about a 2 hr job by myself altho im not sure another set of hands would have been much use there in they clear all the shields by about 5 mm all round , man i have to give it to pace there is not much room for error i dont know if mine were harder than others due to my engine been moved due to the trans if anything i might have thought it might have been easier but thats another job ticked off the list and im about to open a beer or 3 and cool off in the pool cheers dean

Good one Dean. That's a big milestone to have the engine in.
Pity, the weather seems to have gone from cold to hot in the garage in no time.

hi all been a while since any reports on the cobra build but to be honest i have been quite ill for some months and spending time in hospital i had lost the energy and drive to even look at the cobra instead restoring something less complex but still enjoyable i have restored 3 old deltek mini bikes from the 1970s they kept me occupied when i couldn't get around much .. good news is i am slowly on the mend and some of my energy is returning.
i had dropped my seats and doors down to my trimmers in April knowing i was going to be laid up i told him no rush whenever you can fit it in i went down there today for the first time for ages and actually caught him working on them he has made the wooden backing for the door trims to be attached to and had started cutting the foam out for the seats they will be completed by the end of next week .
i have to say it has enthused me to try and do some more on the cobra now. hopefully the pic i took of the seats will load .grrrrr it apears it does not want to upload will try again later

i reckon i will do a few small jobds than put the put the body on and maybe the exhaust system then find someone to sort out the electrics i reckon . where abouts are you at with yours ?

Hi Dean,

Mine? Rear end is complete including everything torqued to spec., and rear wheel alignment by 'xb-60' (he's cheap, so professional will check it later).
Looking at fuel tank fitment for this week.

You've had the body on previously, yes? Does that mean that you've set the rear track already?
You mentioned exhaust system...will this be under-car or side pipes?

hi Glen
mine came as a roller but i supplied my own diff centre so i have had it apart a couple of time i need to replace one hiem joint has there is a bit of movement in one of them somewhere.i will do my own wheel alignment to start with string lines and a camber castor gauge will put it in the ball park then get it done properly when there is more weight in the car. AAA exhaust will be doing the under car system ive know drew down there since he was in nappies and they have done a couple of paces already i will mount the dummy side pipes at a later stage. still plenty of smaller jobs to do ive decided to mount the battery in the boot now after fighting with it to mount as per book small steps at at time getting there slowly .

well ive been powering ahead amazing how much extra time and money you have to spare when you sell a race car i cant believe how many hrs every week i was spending on it.
so since last report i have mounted the radiator hoses and overflow bottles ect ect
and have the engine wiring loom fitted ive mounted the ecu and body control module.

. finally sorted out the shifter linkage man those 6 speed auto boxes are huge could not even get a 10 mm rod from the shifter to the linkage between the box and the trans tunnel. i am glad the guys at absolute pace modded my trans tunnel otherwise there would not been a hope in hell of it fitting it had me pullin g my hair out for a couple of days.
ive mounted a panel from the steering bar back to the firewall on a hinge that my relays /fusebox ob port mount on so it can be out of sight but i can pull it down to get to the electrics if needed..

have started on the dash board and have finally found a auto sparkys to wire the car up . even that has been a mission i have 2 auto sparkys keen to do it but neither of them bothered to turn up to even look at the car then i find a young bloke who lives about 500 metres from me who will come around a few nights a week after work to wire it up . that wont be till end of november as he has a few jobs already pre booked in one is a complete wiring job on a nice 57 chev with a supercharged ls engine in it .
getting close to putting the body back on it soon so at least it will look like a car again . hope all the other guys building cars are progressing as well.

What are you guys doing to deal with the rear 1/2 shaft popping out and dropping oil? BJ's car had this issue at the Nats and it seems its a bit of a problem on the AP rear end? What've you done to fix it?

No, it's not an "issue....on the AP rear end".

BJ's is the first occurence that I've heard of, and I know that he fixed it by fitting stronger circlips to the inner stub axles.

The AP manual states "if you can just push the stub axle in by hand, then there is not enough tension in the circlip. You can gently expand the circlip to provide the required tension."
Then there's a description of the procedure to ensure that the circlip is seated correctly.
