LS (L98) low profile sump
Hi y'all.
I am going with an L98 6.0 for my Pace427, and believe the standard sump will sit below the chassis. I presume this is not a good thing. (The low sump, NOT the LS engine - before you start!)
I did a quick google but not a lot comes up. I'm only interested in a daily driver, not track work, so I don't need high performance or anything like that. Just a lower profile.
Suggestions/advice please...?

The crate/stock motors come with a deeper sump and yes, if you fit that motor/sump combo the sump will sit lower than the floor and you will experience clearance issues. So it does need to be changed, especially if you don't want your Pace to have that 'rough rider' look with 3" gap in the wheel wells (to give you the needed clearance)!!
The low profile sump/ oil pan you need is as fitted to the US Corvette motor. It's 5" tall versus about 8" of your L98 sump. There is no issue with decreased oil capacity....remember these low profile sumps are fitted to the 430hp version of the 6.2 LS3. Craig had one fitted to an LSA too when I was there. If it's good enough for a 585hp LSA then it'd be no issue on yours.
The other cool thing is that as the Corvette sump is flat, the motor will easily sit on the ground by itself without the need for an engine cradle if you want.
I bought mine as a brand new takeoff from a Corvette crate motor from a US Ebay seller. You need the oil pan, dipstick, dipstick tube and, possibly the windage tray. I decided to buy the windage tray just to be safe as it was only another $30. But Craig reckons you can use the existing windage tray.
The items above cost me US $289 plus $126 postage. Had it in a week. The new sump is a simple bolt on affair and you even use your existing oil pan gasket. Craig also said there is a buyer's market for your sump.

is the corvette sump the one with the side wings on it ? I if so I presume that's the one we guys with the l98 engines need ?

Nope Dean. The winged version is the older sump from the Gen 4 Corvettes.

Yes, that's correct David. Forgot to mention that. Everything was included in the 'kit' I purchased...so it's all just swap over and bolt-up.

Google c6 corvette oil pan. You will find lots of sources. I got lucky with mine, it was advertised on eBay australia as an ls3 oil pan. I could just make out the part number in the photo. Got it for a really cheap price.

The C6 pan is baffled around the pickup, good for those high-G corners at Winton.
The pickup is located in the middle of the pan, see below.

Sambo, the C6 pan is the one we recommend for all Cobra replicas fitted with GM engines.
Same one Paintwerks has shown as well.
It is good out of the box as a street performance oil pan, but if you want to do a lot of track use we recommend fitting additional baffle insert and run a accusump. Or if you are a die hard track guy then go dry sump.

I used the Mast Motorsports one, which is great, high quality and has cast-in fittings for the cooler lines. I used this one because of where the cross-member is on my chassis the OE Commodore ones (and the C6 one) had the hump in the wrong spot and they would not fit. It is deeper than the C6 one, but in a CR it is still higher than the bottom of the chassis rails;

ive just ordered mine from the same supplier .almost have everything undone to yank my engine out of he ve so it should arrive about the right time to swap over .
im hoping to have my engine and box sitting in the shed ready to drop in the chassis when it arrives .

I'm on vacation at present, but I have a lot of parts from the comprehensive kit incl. Brake lines, fuel lines, insulation, fuel pumps/filters, fuel tank, radiator etc so this coming Saturday, Darryl, Russell and yours truly are making a start on the build.

This is correct. Just be careful when you visit Repco/wherever as one of the VZ/VE Commodore sumps has a different thread for the filter.

Sambo is on the money, the C6 is probably AC Delco part number PF-46, it is different to OE VE. I ordered half a dozen of these from Summit to keep me in supply for a few years, it was heaps cheaper with shipping than buying here, even though they're not particularly expensive anywhere.

I will go and measure my sump on the LS3 as it sits really low. So might think about the C6 sump too. Was worried that I might take it out on a speed hump or similar.
Off to measure now, and maybe order soon. Pint noted about the other bits and filters.
