Those seats look very familiar.............now I know where Doug (Pearce) sourced mine. They are quite comfy..................but that's all I've ever had so I guess I have 'moulded' myself into them over time !.

No luck with the QLD seats, they had a full side support, which makes entry / exit rather difficult.

Fitted the engine today after a few mods to the harness.. will be progress, if it stays in..

Default dual radiator fans

I was looking a dual fan set up for the radiator, mainly to cut down noise from the apparently rather noisy single 16" fan that comes with the FFR Coupe kit.

The only specs I have seen on a 16" fan indicate between 1500 to 1750 CFM, with a dual 12" unit displacing 1600 CFM.

Appreciate any experience with relative noise levels and whether a dual 12" set up pulling 1600 CFM (through an ac condensor coil as well) will be sufficient to meet the cooling requirements of the Coupe.

Ive got a single 16 inch fully shrouded and im sure its rated to pull somewhere between 2500 to 2800 cfm it really pumps some air and it does the job in hot NQ.

Default radiator fan

Ok... research done, with thanks to Tomcat for pointing me in the right direction.

A decent single blade 16" will pull >25% more air at a higher static pressure than a dual 12" set up.

The FFR supplied fan is a curved blade model, which is supposed to cut down noise.

After a couple of hours looking for a shroud or a new fan set up I decided to make my own cowling for the 16" fan, fitted body sealer rubbers to the edges and lined it with heat shield, in the hope it will attenuate some of the noise.

Fingers crossed I have a quieter, better performing fan set up...

If can advise on the fitment of the Vintage Air condenser to the front of the radiator that would be great. I received no instructions with it and didn't want to proceed unit I get info on the clearance / sealing etc, let alone how the brackets actually mount up..!

As a small note Ford found that putting a cowling around a radiator fan increases cooling by up to 70% in efficiency. Obviously it depends on the layout, fan size, radiator size etc, but it is a significant gain.

Another idea to reduce noise is using a fan controller. a couple of companies make a fan controller that provides a variable speed function using Pulse width modulation. That way the fan isn't running flat out when it's going. The controller can vary the speed to maintain the desired temp.

That looks very similar to my fan with curved blades and my setup but i didnt use checker plate, im sure they are rated at 2800 cfm and the shroud is the key, you cant really hear mine when the engine is running but there is a bit of fan wind noise when i run it with my electric water pump going when i shut down the engine.

Its not checker plate on the outside.. is zeroclearance heat shield.. more for noise attenuation.. every little bit helps..

Thanks for the link Mike.. some VSD's can cause burn out from clipping the voltage, depending on the type of fan motor.. will check it out..

I shouldn't think so. Pulse width speed controllers work by pulsing the DC power on and off at varying duty cycles. Much like the way the injectors work in your EFI system. The longer the injector is on for the more fuel flows.

The longer the pulse of DC power is on for the faster the fan goes. The fan has some inertia so the pulsed DC doesn't make the motor stutter or any thing.

A VSD is used on 3 phase motors and works by changing the frequency of the 3 phase power to change the speed. Pulse width controllers are for DC motors

Current build update.. AC sheetmetal finally in.. !! and wasn't it fun the third time.. Condenser mounted, sheet metal trimmed flush and reinforced.


Second matter.. The US guys have a number of suppliers of headers that suit the Coupe / Roadster, with the primary collector positioned in front of the end of the footwell.

Any advice on Sydney or Aussie suppliers of something similar or any recommendations on block huggers etc would be appreciated.

Hi Chris,

My Daytona from Daytona Sports Cars, Dromana, Vic, has a similar exhaust set up with the primary collector positioned in front of the end of the foot well and also using a V Band clamp. From there I have a 90degree bend to Cat and mufflers. Mine is a 2 1/2" system.

I have attached a photo which shows you the set up.

hey Theo.. as per our PM's, no joy with Daytona selling the headers (just yet), will chase them again tomorrow..

Test fitted the body yesterday... had to cut about half the lip off the back and curves out of the corners for the tank.. is a well known issue on the build forums, has been cleaned up and ready to go for next time.

LOL I've got a whiteboard in the shed that gets a work out from the kids. I've got a friend up the street who has a 3YO that always wants dad to bring her along to visit so she can draw on the whiteboard.
