I recon it can be any nice v8 / v10...don't get the "gotta be Ford" thing...
(unless..of course,if you've decided on building an EXACT replica Cobra.)

I've had both ford and Chev...both great.

Cheers,
Warren
The real Cobra only had a Ford engine and gearbox too, the rest of the car was made up of all non-Ford parts. But, in saying that, I hated the fact my DRB used Holden Components, always pissed me off knowing what was underneath the bodywork. Not saying that it, or others for that matter were bad cars but it just wasn't what I wanted.
Obviously my post has a few noses out of joint and I never intended for that to happen, just wanted to voice my opinion. I'm sure all of you're cars are great cars, and Wazza, I have seen yours in the flesh and I think you've built an awesome car. But, as stated earlier, the GM engine puts ME off. That doesn't mean I think your car is no good and we all build what makes us happy. The FORD engine thing is just a personal gripe that I have. Believe me, when I see the all alloy, supercharged Chevs in some of the cars, I wish I could get over my little weirdness!

Anyway, off subject now. Good luck choosing an engine and I still hope you pick a FORD. (and not an automatic!!!!!!!!! Oops, did I just open another can of worms??? Just jokes guys!)

Just as well you have an authentic chassis to go with that Ford motor.

You're totally right Zacson...and it's not weird at all to really favour a Ford over a Chev...'cause it's YOUR choice, and it's YOUR car...so it shouldn't bother anyone else.

It's whatever YOU want in YOUR Cobra....that's what's great about these cars...You can make them any way that suits YOU...and it will be the "love of your life" when it's finished.

How many times have we been standing next to a Cobra, thinking...
" That's beautiful, but if I owned it...I would've "....etc. etc.

Keep in mind...without being too precious about it all...Carroll Shelby was basically making a "Kit Car" when he lashed a v8 into an AC...and made himself a "Cobra".

So we're only copying someone else's idea in many ways...and we should be able to make them any way that suits us.

So...Go for whatever engine makes you happy.

Best of Luck to you all.

Cheers,
Warren.

Yeah mate, I only voiced that I prefer Ford engines in Cobras over other products. It is only my opinion and I never meant to start a debate. At no time did I bag anyone else's opinion on the matter.

I was quite surprised that so many jumped on me for stating what I like. Guess I need to go and see a psychic so I can get a 'deeper understanding' of the Cobra Zen!

All good, enjoy your cars guys as I will mine! (when it's done)

For my next build, I'm thinking tesla engine
With a faux pas 8stack trumpet set up.
Hopefully it will meet emissions.

Ps. By the way I'm only half joking.

Gotta love this debate !!!
After explaining what engine I had in my cobra to one ignorant person..
He says to me "Do you have any ford parts in your Cobra"
"Absolutely, It has a handbrake lever out of an escort" !!!
The beauty of these machines is that they are all individual and I personally will stop and look at each and every one of them...

I love it when others fit there Chev this or Hemi that to their cars but i could never do it myself.....I guess to me the the motor is the heart of the car and the only connection to the real deal. Same goes for my GT40 with the OE running a SBF....I can install a 289/302/347 and have a connection to real car.

Some of us had no real choice due to our stinkin emission laws..
I had a 428 cobrajet ready to go in.
But I had to pass emissions, noise etc, so as you can we imagine that was it for that. The Windsor at that time wasn't gonna make it through either.
So, what to do??
Without cutting and widening the chassis the 5.4 wasn't gonna go.
The LS was the same dimensions as the Windsor and it went in like it was meant to be.
Would I change it now you ask ??
No freakin way !! It is an awesome bit of kit..
And I'm sure anyone who has seen and heard my car is likely to agree..

That motor is a whole lotta right and would look awesome in any engine bay. French in some Ford Motorsport logos in the rocker covers.... sorted!

I agree what you want isn't always what you get, in saying that I have friends that have Holden's and you would be surprised at how many run Ford 9" Ford toploader only cause Holden was to tight to bring in their top products, on my list Holden is way at the bottom for reliability #1 Ford cause having owned quite a few never let me down, #2 Chrysler face it top Fueler's copied the best but that's my opinion, and what you want and use, is what's practical available and affordable, I mean if we could get a Ferrari v12 twin turbo's who knows?

With that little monster crammed under your bonnet (somehow) you sure wouldn't need to resort to the testosterone booster in the ad at the foot of the page!

my mate who sponsors my race car owns a engine shop I don't have to pay for machining and get my parts at his price and he lets me use his engine room so I can assemble my engines is chomping at the bit for me to drop off my 6 litre so he can go to town and stroke it and do some head work /cam ect ect .
I have too keep telling him to settle down as the car has to get registered and pass emission's first once that is done I will pull it out and he can have it and do his stuff.

this is a shameless plug for C&M engines here in sa lol
cheers deano

Don't sweat it Zacson, it has been a dozen times before. Some people will casually throw that line in on a thread to liven it up a little.
People that have been on this forum a while (particularly the Aussies who tend to modify their Cobras from 'Authentic' a bit more than the Americans do) have a little s****** when it happens... Here we go again, who is gunna bite this time.
But you are right, its just the same as someone putting a Chev and an auto in a Cobra..... Its sacrilegious......... That would be nearly as bad as someone buying a Porsche......

I find it funny that a guy who says "Gotta be a Ford motor in a Cobra" is building a Pace, with alloy chassis, alloy suspension on cantilever shocks.

Sorta makes the argument invalid if you ask me.

Ford/Chevy/Viper...whatever...all good.

And as far as the chassis....
I'm happy to see the replicas evolve the way they have.

Nobody has built anything like "an original chassis" in Australia for a squillion years....

Great to see the modern Cobra still likes to look like the original...but with a ton of improvements "under the skin"

Original chassis...is o.k.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/daio4aa21...DEs_mosZa?dl=0

But I don't mind the improvements since then:

Happy New Year boys..( and girls)

Warren.

The decision to build a Pace was easy! One of the best kits in the world in my opinion.
But as far as engines go, I still stand by my thoughts. If I was building an early Corvette replica, I wouldn't think of putting a Ford engine in it!!!! It would be Chev all the way. Wouldn't matter what chassis it had.. Same theory goes with the Cobra.

But again, I don't hold anything against people running other engines, just not for me.
