Default bitter sweet day

I know this is not car related and if not suitable mods can remove .
yesterday has been one of the worse days and happy days in my life .
my mum has lung cancer and we were lead to believe she had a few month's left .
yesterday we were told she has only weeks maybe days and she wants to go home to die if possible as she is now in hospital . we have arranged 24 hr care for her at home my wife is taking time of work and my sister is flying in from Darwin to help as well .mum might be home even just for a couple of days and if it gets too hard for us and her she will go to a palliative care ward
so that was the bitter news .

now the sweet news is my daughter gave birth last night to our first grand son a healthy boy they have named Charlie . he was my mums goal for staying alive as she wanted to see her first surviving great grand child as my daughter lost one at 5 months in feb last yrs so at the moment im torn between sadness for my mum but delighted for my daughter and boyfriend .

the last 24 hrs has put life into perspective and is teaching me not to stress over the little things and how important family is .
so in ending my advice to all is be nice to your mum and dad as you only get one of each my dad died young 21 yrs ago . and don't stress over the little things as its not worth the energy .
anyway cheers all and I hope you all have a great day im just of to meet my grand son :-).
cheers dean

Sorry to hear the news Deano.
My year has started bumpy as well.
I really good friend lost his wife on New Years day, I was in Adelaide last week for funeral.
Then I got the news yesterday that a mate in Qld had a accident on his farm and has died in a tractor roll over.

It seems the year for it.

I was separated last year and (hopefully) the divorce settlement goes through without too much of a drama (yeah right). No kids so that SHOULD make it easier.

I am heading off next Thursday for 3 weeks.... Will be competing in this little event -
Navigate North | Een ijskoud spektakel
I am in team 'Verstralershop'
Then off to stay with my cousin in Whistler doing a little snowboarding for a week then back home to hopefully dyno the Supercar and have it on track in time for the first A series on Feb 21...
Its gunna get busy....
Hope everyone has a great year.

Deano, sorry to hear your news. I'd like to think this Oz Forum is a community that accepts the need for its members to express themselves and there is more than enough room on here to do so. Cars are just the common thread that bind us all together. I can relate to your post and think its a good thing that you have the ability on this forum to share.

"Putting life in perspective" is what its all about. A week ago I fell into the trap of getting upset over trying to buy something and subsequent disappointment over the net result.. then I look at my family and realise what really is important and now just laugh it off. Its just not worth getting upset in the big scheme of things.

I trust it all works out for you and your family as best as possible mate.

Dean,

I sincerely know how you feel mate, I lost my mum 11 years ago right before Christmas all of a sudden no warning and no illness beforehand. I think mums are harder to loose.

My Dad has been battling lung cancer and the doctors didn't give us any answers but that was 1 year ago and after months and months of Chemo he sort of seems himself again. I lost an uncle last year to the dreaded rust. All I can say is that i can only hope that you are fortunate enough to spend some quality time with your Mum in advance of when her time comes. It's hard but the best times in your life need to be bought to the front of your mind, it makes the pain easier.

My heartfelt empathy with all who have had heartache in recent time, seems like you're not alone in that department. Thanks for the reminder about the small stuff, and helping get my head in the right place. I hope the rest of the year brings more hope, joys, happy surprises and peace of mind to you all. Congratulations on the birth of your grandson Deano, the mix of tears and smiles on Sunday will be something to cherish.

Deano

Though it is a sad time cherish the memories you have, love the family that is around and know your mum is now in a better place.

thanks guys for your thoughts strangely enough I don't feel all that devastated tm it may hit me later im just glad she is not suffering anymore and is reunited with dad for those that believe in the after life .
my dad used to say don't cry for the dead but weep for the living . tomorrow comes the meeting with the funeral director and arranging all of that .it's been hard ringing around to her friends far and wide breaking the news to them hopefully my sister will fly in from Darwin in the next day or so to help out . but again thanks for your thoughts
cheers dean

I can sympathise Deano. I lost my beloved mother 2 years ago almost to the day. She was a tower of strength up to 94 years old. She was a fearless activist but loved to enjoy life and family. The day she had a sudden stroke that took her life, she was happy and laughing only moments before. Once the initial grief was over we felt like we had a lot to be happy for in the way she lived and even in the peaceful way she died. Hold tight to those who are still with you - nothing more important than family.

All the best.
