These are $350 direct from Yella Terra....
Ford V8 Cleveland/Windsor Yella Terra Flywheel, 10.60kg - yellaterra
.... similar weight (10.6kg / 23 pound) to the other "light weight" flywheels I'm looking at.

If you are putting a new clutch and flywheel in it's worth getting the flywheel and pressure plate balanced. I sourced clutch and flywheel from different sources. With the pressure plate located on the standard dowels it was way out of balance (according to the shop I got to balance them). The guy reckoned it wanted to fling itself off their machine.

Totally agree!
All balanced parts before you go through that pain of putting them back in.
They literally just cut small pieces out of my pressure plate until it balanced. I was amazed how out or round it was!

Dave, please post the weight after you've weighed it. It will be interesting.
Anybody have a factory-standard SBF flywheel laying around to weigh as well?

Good point Mike (and Berninca).
For starters, the clutch and flywheel I settle on will be branded the same and from the same supplier; that seems a no-brainer. Balancing the two together should be easy and relatively cheap.

It wasn't expensive to get them balanced and it was well worth it for the piece of mind.

i get every engine i build balanced now even stocky ones and i always use arp bolts like mike says for the cost of getting it done it's well worth it .
im just deciding if i will strip down the the engine i have for my cobra one it makes it easier to detail and paint and make it look nice and two i can freshen it up even tho it only has about 70.000 ks on the clock rings bearings bolts and gaskets and balancing and timing chain for peace of mind and it wont need to be done again for a long time ,
i use remacs in gawler some of you may remember des who owns it used to have a nice robnell quite a few yrs ago and every now and then he would put in the methanol engine out of his ski boat lol.

A yup there and well worth the peace of mind. You can use a different fly but balance everything before crawling under there and putting it all back in! IMHO.

If you have to buy both a flywheel and a clutch (as I do), then good deals can be had by buying the same brand from the same supplier, so it really is a no-brainer to do it that way. Can then balance them together (with the flywheel imbalance weight removed )

How much of the engine do you typically balance?
My plan is to eventually have the engine neutrally balanced, but of course, as-is, it's a 50oz imbalance engine.

I got my clutch from SPEC in the US SPEC Clutches & Flywheels: Auto Parts, Domestic, Import, Truck, Racing, Drifting :: Home They were the flavor of the month on all the LS forums at the time. They had a lot of options for custom and conversion setups. Might be worth talking to them.

LS = LS1 = Chebby motor
They have listings for early Mustang so I reckon they would have something for your combination.

i do pistons and rods and the crank with the flywheel or flex plate on as well as the harmonic balacer

I bought the Yella Terra one way back just before the BA Falcon was released and I have no Idea on price but believe the question was answered.
I put the light weight Yella Terra flywheel in the XY and is neutral balanced mated to the top loader.
The 157 tooth flywheel I put in the Cobra came from Castlemain Rod Shop as a complete package with the clutch and bell housing and is mated to a T5.
I don't know the weights of the factory flywheels as mine was a auto also.
I agree with everyones comments to get it balanced and use ARP bolts bot flywheel and pressure plate.

Tim, I did some checking on this subject as a little bit of reassurance now might potentially save a lot of $$$ later.
George Reid's excellent reference book High-Performance FORD Engine Parts Interchange has no mention of a difference in crankshaft end play between auto and manual transmission configurations. Same story in a couple of other SBF/Windsor books. Internet searches showed figures of 0.004" to 0.008", 0.004" to 0.009" and 0.004" to 0.010" but no mention of differences between manual vs. auto transmissions configs.
No comments posted by engine builders, surprisingly.
I'm happy to assume no difference.
