Default Ouch!

A friend just sent this through to me.

Looks like a Backdraft Cobra to me and it's got NSW rego on it.

Anyone we know? Hope the driver was OK.

Be careful out there.

Yep, it looks Like a LHD Backdraft on full rego. I wonder how they got it through?

Hope they're ok. For us that don't speak Aussie, what is rego or full rego?
Some kind of Australian hoops to jump through to get a car registered or titled? Is it different in different areas of the country?

Thanks.

Getting a Cobra registered and on the road in Australia requires a bit of work. You cant just turn up at the Registration authority with your car and some cash. We have Australian Design Rules that the car must comply with. Even though it's a replica of a 1960's car it has to comply with the same rules as modern cars do i.e Emissions and safety. There are some exemptions in that you don't have to have crash test results but you do need torsion and beaming tests done on the chassis.

Cars need a full engineers report from a certified engineer and then the usual safety certificate all cars must have before you can get a set of plates and put the car on the road.

I'm just surprised to see a Left hand drive Backdraft registered as LHD cars can only be registered if they are over 25 years old.

Cheers

Mike, it was probably titled in the USA as a 1965 or 1966. People were able to do that in the past but apparently they've closed that loophole now.

The frame looks like it might have saved someone, for a glass car it does not look as bad as it good be, shows the advancement in builds over originals...

Hope the driver and any passenger are ok.

Sadly I can relate to that!

Fortunately mine was not as high speed I suspect and definitely with not as pretty a car at the time though!

Still sad to see though.

I read it as "427 CI" as in cubic inch? But I'm getting old, senile, and I'm squinting...

Either way, I hope all are ok.
That rims taken a whack too.

With nationals on this weekend Stay safe everyone!

I think you found it Theo.

Such a shame, it was a real nice Cobra. Hopefully it's only superficial damage and they can rebuild it.

Cheers

Damn shame.
I think you might be right Dimis 427CI.
NSW rego site indicates the following:
427COB - as Marlox said, Volkswagon
427CID - no car registered with that number. There's a cool plate for someone.
427CI - says this car is blocked from this process. Someone have friends in RMS?

Don't know about OZ, but in NZ owners can ask for rego details to be 'blocked', stops the scumbags that loiter around car shows etc looking for stuff to pinch from finding your address.

New owner I believe. The car was at Kingsgrove prestige for 120k and sold not more than a couple months ago. Shame, nice car but not sure about the rego status. Hope everyone has been great, I've been off for some time now but regularly reading everyone's posts. Be at Nationals Saturday only so love to catch up. Stef
