I think we have all had comments like that, I was told mine was not real because of no side pipes, roll bars and stripes, it amazing how many people don't realise that Shelby made a road going version of the car.
but have also heard the comment that its not a real Robnell.

Interesting point, are their any other kits held in the same high regard that Robnell cars are?

Perhaps a little off topic, just curious as the different status levels of the respective replicas out there.

Getting back on topic I can say I only know of the car as I have not met the owner. I know the car was legally registered in SA as a big block. The factory option of a nine inch independent rear was an expensive option and is therefore scarce and desireable.
It would not have a Robnell low volume compliance plate as it had to go thru the inspect process. I believe it is still owned by the builder who was a Vet.

The car has been for sale for some time and was reduced in price recently. I believe it is legit and not a scam etc. I also have no connection with the car or owner as I already have two Robnell's (yes real ones) of my own in build stage.

No doubt Pace will achieve that status.

Status levels do seem to vary between kits but without consistency. It seems to be the region where the kit originates might hold it in higher regard because they may not see many kits from other regions.

back in the day a robnell was the car to have truly a nice car and a pricetag to match .they always seem to command a resale price that reflects the reputation of the car there were some real monsters built over he yrs .

i know one owner who drove to look at a car show his car was not entered and was just parked in the public parking area he come back to see a crowed around his car to find out he had taken first prize for the day the car was not even entered lol true story and i know others here cab confirm it and know who i am talking about .
is a robnell any better than cars been built now ? who's too say but i will be happy if my pace is still as well sought after 20 yrs after it was built i would be happy,

cheers dean

Probably more paces around than Robnells now, does anyone know the total number of Robnells? I know my chassis is no. 1 of the python round tubes (bar the race car), I think they are up to about 90 at the moment.

I have no doubt Pace will achieve that status either. And that's not only because I own one, it is also the reason I bought one in the first place.

Back in the late 90's I built a DRB Cobra to a fairly high standard for the day but could only dream about owning a Robnell. Specially after seeing an SC429 in action at West Wyalong in 1998!!!

I feel that Pace has slotted into the "upper market' local built kit car slot that has been vacant since Robnell stopped production.

I put Pace Cobras in the same league as a Kirkham these days. Different style and less authentic but certainly as good, if not better.

But I may be a bit bias I guess!

A cobra brand that is:
*relatively easy to assemble,
*requires little fabrication, and
*uses significant supplied parts that are of a consistent high quality
would seem to me to be a brand that will be attractive to builders and buyers.

A bloke asks about a car for sale and what do we get?
What Paul wooley is doing these days.
What people think of Pace cars, and what the future holds!
Give me strength.

Being a the new boy on the block, what made the robnell special?
Was it full of custom made parts or was similar to most other kits of the day, but with donor parts engineered to fit? A classic shape that was finished to a high degree?

All of the above! They were the most advanced as far as engineering, finish, body shape etc etc

But, compare them with current kits like Kirkham and Pace, and they are, err, hmmmm, hard to put into words. A great car but, just older I guess, and it shows. If that makes sense???

Me, I am just trying to understand the robnell thing, which is a little bit relevant to this thread. Keeps it alive for others to add stuff along the way. Hopefully the OP, learns something along the way as well.

That was fangit s first and only post!
