Cobra Nats 2016
Just an early heads up for next year.
Dates are:
Fri 30th September
Saturday 1st October
Sunday 2nd Oct
Public Holiday on Monday
Special note (though it may change)
- You can no longer camp behind the pit row sheds. (Mostly Qlder's did this)
- The onsite accommodation is OK but pretty basic. (This year we had running water for 2 of the 4 days.)
- WP is enforcing noise these days so be aware. Generally apart from the usual suspects no one should have an issue.
With Kim doing a post Nats appraisal Wednesday night it will be interesting to hear what the general observations were and what changes (if any) they may be looking to do next year.
Feel free to use this topic as a suggestion or question platform going forward.
Cheers

Well, after enduring another disappointing reliability issue at Nats 2015, Ive stripped everything out from south of the engine block!
Ive started with beefing the rear end. Ive managed to convert my existing mid case BMW M3 rear end to a LARGE CASE M3 3.2 our of their V8 and V12 coupe. Good for serious torque. Crown wheel has increased in size from 188mm to 210mm and I have increased ratios from 4.27 to 3.91.
The centres a monster. Had to fab a new diff carrier but have maintained all my 1/2 shafts etc which were already taken from the large case diffs specs and modded. A relatively easy and simple mod and I'm told I will never have to touch it again! After 6 mid case fails I hope so!!
The diff pumpkin nearly needs 2 blokes to lift it!
Now comes the next expensive part. Gearbox. I love the Hollinger in my Daytona but they're exy! A cheaper alternative is Modena GB out of Melbourne. BUT I'm really considering this new product out of NZ only just launched called High Quality Motorsport Gearboxes, Transmissions and Custom Parts | HGT Precision
Lovely stuff and a lot less exy than Hollinger. I'll make a decision for Christmas.
Once the GB is done I HOPE I can start a reliability campaign and actually get to see how good the car (and my lack of ability) can be.

If you are searching for reliability would you go for a proven performer or something new and unproven?
I know the Holingers are exy but the Modena is affordable?
The last thing you want is to be shipping a gearbox to and from NZ when it breaks or has issues.....

True towy true. BUT at what point do you give the new kid on the block a go.
Same argument could have been said about AP 3 years ago and look at them now. Hard to find any newbies willing to go past em!

Very popular with the offroad and transaxle brigade boxy but I haven't seen too many running in sports sedan type circuit racers??? Its a consideration all the same!

Out of interest, what do they each cost?
I googled HGT /transmission /sequential and got bugger all about the trans other than their website, but I got all kinds of results about Horizontal Gene Transfer (transmitting genetic material without having sex...)
Has the RCR SLC with the Albins done much track time?

Have we heard what is on the "proposed for next year" list, or what did and didnt work?

New rear end complete and fitted. Some fab work, a new cradle, and diff mod but all up we should be good for 700nm+.
Now to the pricey middle section. The GB.

I'm heading over for a few laughs.
Andrew will need someone to show him what to do.
