Hi guys my name is Wil and I design and build the ICCARS AC Cobra replicas and this was a special request to build this monster..
I am a new comer to the Cobra scene and to you guys so any feedback (positive or constructive) would be appreciated.
Saying that I am experienced in the GT40 scene having built an RF GT40 that is twin Turbo'd and gets up and boogies.. LOL
I would like to hear back from you as to what makes your AC better for your own enjoyment, and hope I can contribute to what makes this kit better for future enjoyment.
Cheers Wil

Hi Tenrocca, the windscreen set back is at 55 degrees as per the original, as this gives you better head clearance, however to adjust the angle is easy as the mounting points are set by the builder based on the required angle they wish to achieve, within reason...
The chassis has a very high torsional rigidity (9350Nm+) the plus is because the chassis were designed and testing without being panelled, which adds to the stiffness, and the body is carried over 13 connection points to the chassis and when bonded (if bonded) adds tension to the torsional strain on the chassis, thereby increasing resistance to twisting - increasing torque slightly..
Hopes this information helps.

Hi Spookypt, the choice for rear cradle was simple - Skyline, the front was more difficult but then I saw something I really liked and could make it work - Mazda RX7 twin turbo SD3FS and the rest is history. Considered the best handling AC Cobra in SA by the certifying Engineer. All upgrades available for better brakes, callipers etc.. We run power steering as STD. The front end has 8 Degrees anti-dive, 9-11 degrees positive castor and Bump steer is almost eliminated altogether. The sensation is equivalent to driving a BMW but it is an AC Cobra...
And to get those rear wheels to fit in is as simple as changing the cradle for a five link live rear axle system. Panhard rods are not an issue with minimal travel on this type of vehicle.

Back to the topic............
Agreed, the Watts link is the way to go for most modern cars that have a greater suspension travel, however an AC Cobra would only traverse through it's total moment about 25-30mm from full compression to total rebound, hence the pan hard rod is a good compromise for this set up. Trust me, those 16" wide wheels do not scrub and they only have 15mm clearance from the chassis, and 7mm from the body..
It's all in the geometry..
Cheers
Wil

Thanks Dave, it's been almost 18 months of modifications and problem solving to get the GT40 to where it is now.. I'm happy with it though as it produces 650HP at the flywheel and over 950Nm of torque at 4600+
Attached a photo at the dyno..
That was a fun day.. Not!!

Thanks spookypt, however I would rather take my 545ci P5 LTD to the Nats. It runs a gearvendors OD/UD system as well, so killer gear selection. The 295 MT ET's don't stand a chance on that thing.. LOL

Great cars!

Love the GT40, surely more rear tyre needed!

I think your LTD would have trouble in the corners at Wakefield Park - Spook is talking about the Cobra Nationals rather than Summernats.

Cheers,

Ben

I think new tyres for the GT40 would be a good start LOL..

I missed the point on what Spook was saying, but fully agree the LTD would be out of it's comfort zone at the Cobra Nationals..

Cheers
Wil

Hi guys,

as I am new to this forum I'm not sure if this should be a new thread or not but I thought I would share a couple of photos of my own AC Cobra build, and over time keep updating posts to reflect my progress.
Please advise if this would be better done as a new thread?

Regards
Wil

I can only speak for myself, but I think it is great if a manufacturer runs his/her own build thread it has to be a good thing.

Tks Boxhead,

I am not sure how many posts I have to have up before I can post my own thread?
Is there a min. number of posts to start my own thread.
