Not sure how true the story is, but I read that the guy's ex-wife was getting the house as part of the divorce settlement and he wanted to 'leave his mark' so to say.

Along the lines that the simplest explanation is most likely the right one, Sime's observation seems plausible and what I had intuitively said to myself.

Certainly puts a new spin (lol) on the way to "polishing the boards"!

And I too would love to try my hand a car control like this but with plenty of clear space and soft furnishings to avoid repeating a mistake of the past!
