Glass wind wings and visors
Hi Guys,
The plexi wind wings and visors on my car have that terrible crazed look - they have been on a few years now. I was going to get the glass ones from finishline, but noticed they dont have the visors in glass. The wind wings are actually a bit of a hazard as they obscure my view a little.
Any local options? I seem to remember someone got a batch made up at once upon a time.
Cheers

Tenrocca,
I can't tell you about local options but when I had my Cobra the glass ones kept breaking when racing and I took both the visors and wings down to a local glass shop and had some made out of Lexan. Then I had a person that I knew put the Cobra emblems and logos on them and never had a problem after that and they are still on the car 20 years later and in perfect shape.

I've got the ones from finishline 3 years ago, and they look like they are laminated glass.
I'm still not sure if the hinge bracket goes on the outside or inside? I've seen photos of both ways. And do you need soft washers on the glass?

Hinge on the outside. Yes, use little plastic washers.

Happy with whatever wont go shabby after a year or 2. in some light the wind wings look a little like shattered glass.

I have glass wind wings that were supplied to me by Pace.
I have heard that some others who have the glass wind wings had experienced breakages from rocks hitting them. The glass shatters and sends fragments into your paint and leaving chips.
The solution is to take the wind wings to your local window tinting place and have them apply a clear tint to at least one side (the leading side), but preferably both sides. This will contain the glass in the event they are broken.

Im hoping the 2' length of lumpy metal sitting on the shelf will help out much more than change of wind wings. Just need to find time.

The glass wind wings will be heavier Ben.
They will match his massively overweight fuel tank straps though.

One of the plexi wings on mine has Carroll's signature on it and fading. Just going to order a new set from Finishline and put these away for safe keeping..

I Have the python wind wings, they are 16 years old and are perfectly clear, apart from a small scratch cause by me.

Wind Wings
Iv,e just ordered a set of wind wing and sun visor brackets from Finish Line and will buy the visors and wind wings from Snakebite. I intend to use the plastic wind wings as a template and have a laminated glass set made by the local windscreen suppliers.
Cheers

Makes my curious about the grade of PLexi used in the Finishline ones as Ive gone through 2 sets and they only looked for a year or so.

Yes i have had a few boats with shocking windscreens (haines hunter & carribean), not sure what python has used, but the car has sat on many hot sunny days at shows, and no sign of crazing

Keen to follow what you find Andrew.
I bought mine from Finishline, and the wind wings are really bad.
I bought some tinted visors somewhere (I think Finishline) and so far they are all good (about 3 years old) with no cracking etc.
