As my 10 year old Kumhos on the rear were past the wear indicators I thought I had better find something legal to get around on. After a lot of research I ended up getting some Federal RS-RR's. They only come in 255 40 17, however they are sized a bit larger. The old 275 40 17s were pretty much exactly 275 width on my 9.5" rims. The 255 40 17's RS-RR's are about 267, so not a lot narrower. They are 15mm smaller diameter but I can live with that.
The tread pattern is awful, something only a ricer would love and they are noisey - someone said they sound a bit like your being followed by a jet, and that is about right. Not a big deal in our cars though and I dont think you would notice in an open car.
But, they are terrific value and the reviews I have read have been very positive on the grip. Treadwear is stated at 140. Initial impression is that it is much harder to break traction than the Kumhos, but, as I said they were very old. If they go OK, Ill get a couple for the front before nats (The 235's size around 245+ apparently). The Kumhos on the front have plenty of tread at the moment. Not sure why the rears have worn more quickly

Interestingly (or not) the treadwear on the tyre is printed as 200. The web site states 140 - I got a freshly minted set. I think they just print that on so they can run it in the 200 treadwear class in the US.

Not at all boys, had a Great drive today and I reckon they are definitely stickier than the ku36s.
I'm more concerned about the new Wakefield noise restrictions. A mate was telling me today his brother got measured at 110dB in his street registered wrx. Everyone in his group was over the 95dB limit.

Now the forum is up to speed again thought I would post my impressions on the Federal RS-RR option for Control Tyre class.
In a word they are pretty blooody good. Did a PB by nearly a second and a half. Took me a while to get used to the extra grip over the (very old) KU36's.
Definitely a good option for the 25th anniversary next year which is going to be HUGE

Andy had no class last year, one would think it will be the same this year.

Similar format I think. Treadwear 180+, a selection on tyres on the ok list, others possible with approval. Kim can clarify.

(Time for some trash talk) I think the QLDERS will take out most classes.......based on their recent form at the Sprint Series. I dont even think the rain can save the NSWelshman.
