AFAIC, a V8 is a large part of a Cobra's soul, and it's appeal.

But it's your car so please ignore me and build what pleases you! What would I know....I put a Chevy in mine!
The Audi A6 Quattro is a 4.2l quad cam V8 engine same as the early R8 engines but slightly lower spec. So pretty good start I think, but I still have to make my mind up if I want to spend another two years on this or put in the 427W I have for it?? Anyway it's all worth the thought process.
Cheers for your thoughts

But is it more of a 'refined' V8 with that Audi-esque European sound I'm not a fan of Ben. To each their own though!!

Pull the restricted system off it, load up a new flash tune and you start to get up around 250kw out of an all alloy 4.2L engine. Throw in a set of up spec cams and it's capable of producing 350kw. The BA motors make 260kw at 1200cc greater engine capacity and weight..
As you say, each to their own.

One of the Qld club members has an R8 with an aftermarket exhaust. It sounds UNREAL!

I love the R8 sound, hence my direction with regards to this project.
All I need is new R6/8 cams, lighter valves as per the R6/8 and I'm hoping I can get away with an E-prom chip and piggy back it into the ECU to change the tune and optimise the power output on the dyno...

Yes he does and we had a little drag race at 100kph one day a while ago.... Let's just say the unrefined 6 litre Windsor left him wondering what had happened... But yes it sounds great at high rpm, I just couldn't hear it from in front 😊
The great thing about a kit car, you do whatever the hell you like to it, it is a kit car after all, nothing is set in stone. We even have an 8 litre V10 in one up here.

Go for it!

When you say "unrefined 6 litre Windsor", perhaps you should add "one of the most powerful naturally aspirated Cobras in the club" for a bit of disclosure...

Sounds like a lot of fun!
Also sounds like a lot of head aches to try to make work, but you sir sound infinitely more equipped than most (certainly I) to execute this.

I say bloody go for it! & best of luck to you!
Just keep us posted.

Ps. Tell you son to find his own bloody Audi. This ones booked!

Thank you Dimis, I did a conversion on an AlfaSud Ti some 18 years ago and converted the Alfa wagon Quattro running gear into my 1200Ti then built an adaptor to the manifold to accept an AGZE Toyota super charger coupled to a rebuilt 1500Ti motor.. that thing was insane on launch.. could rip the seats of it's mounts on take off I was told by the Alfa club over here that I was this first person to attempt this in OZ, but I am not sure of that!
I have done the designs already on this but yes, my 14yr old son who is already building his own MK2 Escort with 2L Turbo motor and 5 speed sierra gearbox & 16 inch Minilite wheels etc etc .. says the Audi is his LOL (I've created a monster)
I need to confirm under the new laws that he can drive it based on the power to weight aspect of the vehicle, which I think has to be less then 130kw/1000kg to be suitable for him to drive this car on his P's - once he is old enough that is..

The V8 version of the R8 is not particularly fast when we're talking about hot Cobras. Its only 310kw from memory. On the other hand, it will cruise on the bahn nicely at 280. Pretty sure there's nothing "nice" about a Cobra at 280.

I've driven a V8 R8 a few times back in 2008-2009. I would gladly have one

Well the jury's out and it looks like the Audi drive line into Cobra project is a go.
It seems that the new "High Powered Vehicle" laws are as usual totally obscured from reality and should you own a 2010 or later model V8 and your kids are eligible to obtain their P1 license prior to the 4th of Sept 2010 they can drive it as long as the power/weight ratio doesn't exceed 130kw per 1ton vehicle weight, however this does not apply to vehicles made prior to 2010.
So if you bought an Audi A6 Quattro V8 (for instance) built on the 31st of December 2009, it would not be considered as exempt from the HPV act, but if it was built on the 1st of January 2010 than would be considered exempt if it meets the power to weight ratio requirements. Who makes these rules...
Anyway I guess it's good for me as the project is a go, not so good for my son Josh... We will however keep building his turbo MK2 Escort and he can drive that on his L's while he's learning to drive. What a crazy world..LOL

My original GT40 SVO 5.0L motor put out 250kw and that was pretty quick in a heavier vehicle than the Cobra - check out link. I think that 300Kw will be perfect, although the A6 engine is not a pushrod engine, so I'm not sure what the low down torque will be like. Going ahead with it though.. Wish me luck

I was just pissing around as the crowd wanted some wheel spin so I gave it to them through first and second gears.. Still did a 13sec pass
Will have to see if I can improve that a little at next years K.I. Drags, with the twin turbo engine..

ICC-001 some of the early photos during the progression of the chassis build up, sorry about the poor quality of a couple of photos..
The 351W and 8-stack Injection Perfection system
Integral handbrake set up on the Skyline cradles - perfect.
Gearvendors mated to a C4 = no tailshaft

I initially had these Halibrand's painted up for ICC-001 but decided to go with the BRM's - now I'm not so sure...
Paint scheme is going to be a solid Alfa deep red base with polar white GT stripes - Sort of like the Pace one there up the top..The rims are charcoal grey 17x11 Rear and 16x9 Front
Decisions, decisions..

Wil, what are the notes for on the rear guard in the last two pics? You planning on flaring that section?

Either way you go with the wheels, you better had hurry up. All that good rubber is turning harder by the week
