Default Pace427 Alumina #69 Born Again!

Well I can officially share some exciting news that I am now the custodian of a very special car that has pretty much traveled all the way around Australia since being born a couple years back. This car has literally traveled around 10,000km's yet the tyres are still like brand new....why, because it still has no engine or trans She runs real cheap. I have great intentions for finishing this piece of art work and really looking forward to the journey of the next year or two of finishing her off and finally hearing that heart beat. It was a mammoth road trip to tow her back from Albany in WA to Adelaide in SA but now that we're all home safe and sound we can appreciate every effort. A huge thank you to my new best mate Dave Stean who has firstly put in so much blood, sweat and tears to initially take on this build and do such a quality job to date and secondly has been so helpful in the transfer of ownership. The Cobra journey for me personally has just begun but I am confident for a great future with the help of Dave and some of you other guys out there who have been helping with my decision R&D. Below are a couple pics of the new beginnings from this moment on. You'll have to excuse the dust as we got detoured onto approx 80km of dirt roads on the first leg of the journey and I have literally just parked her up from returning home. I'll keep you posted on progress as it happens.
Cheers
Scott

You have a great car there from Dave.

Best wishes for the build.

Great Scott!

I didn't even know it was for sale. Handy little score.
Have you decided on engine and finish?

On a side note, are you now hanging onto that gt40 Dave?

Good luck with the build.

Never mind the distance the car has travelled....how's the trailer's travel (and recent owners) history LOL.

Well done Scott. Enjoy the journey.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys.
At this stage I am aiming for an LSA with maybe a GM 10 speed auto box from the new Camaro ZL1. Not sure how the trans will fit or match up yet but it's food for thought. The overall finish of the body needs to showcase the Aluminum so I was thinking of either full polished and maybe brushed or black stripes or otherwise a nice Indigo metalic blue with polished or brushed stripes. It will be getting a removable hard top as well. I am wanting this project to be an enjoyable cafe cruiser / show car as I have no intention to put it on a track. A track car might be saved for the next project...maybe a 40 or something.
I contacted our local engineer guy today to start getting the ball rolling on compliance. I am also taking his lead a little on engine selection so I can get it through without too many headaches.
Send me any other suggestions you may have. I'm always open to listen.
Cheers
Scott

Wow my old trailer has covered a few k's lately.
It's ok she was used to that.
For ease of rego an LS is probably the best but because of the aluminium body / authentic sort of look it would be good to open the bonnet to either an ITB on single carb look efi set up.
Just my 20c worth.

If you can afford the coin ITB look awesome on any engine!

I'm also a fan of the old school dual quad look. (I stole these pics from DaveW)

Polished IS awesome!!!!
Its unrivaled for shock and awe!
Its aluminium, it should be polished right?!

Living with it however is a pain in the Rrse!
It's kind of like living on a yatch. I mean who wouldn't want to live on a yatch!
From afar the thought of it and romance of it sounds ideal. Tranquil and pleasant is the image of a boat anchored off the shore with the sun setting behind it. But the reality couldn't be further from the truth, when you're on the boat. Wind-burned, sun-burned, sea sprayed, and salt sprayed, Rocking and rolling, sea-sick and vomiting. Miles from home and a decent meal, coffee or hot chocolate.

2nd vote for brushed finish and polished stripes.

Either way post pics!
and thanks for sharing

Does anyone know the best place locally (within Aus) to source either an LSA or LT4 and also the GM 10spd trans? I am looking for a company that can also mate it all up with appropriate ECU and looms.

Scott,

a 10 speed trans will weigh more than the whole car.. lol

I would suggest a 6 speed trans is much better suited, easier to come by and better torque effect for the power to weight ratio of the car..

the trans tunnel needs to be modded just to get the 6 speed in there im not sure of the size of the ten speed and then getting everthing to work as it should just getting the 6 speed to play nice is starting to become a mission as for shifters for it there is nothing aftermarket so i need to use the factory ve shifter because of the electronics in it and the tiptronic that i want to retain.
well done on getting the car tho a good score
cheers dean
