Interstingly Tasmania also 'required' ABS.
All due to a poorly phrased enquiry to the wrong person in another jurisdiction.
After my research that decision was reversed. All other states and territories do not require ABS. Except NSW apparently...
Unlike NSW'ers to know better

My Daytona has abs and it works pretty good. But I switch it off most if the time.

ADR31/03 for ESC and ABS
Transport needs to grant an exemption I understand. They all do, except NSW.
I believe there was work underway to ensure national uniformity (ie no ABS or ESC for ICV's), but I am not sure where that is at.

ADR 31/03 actually makes allowance for not fitting ABS - it's just the RMS personnel don't read the ADRs, then make up their own illegitimate interpretations based on their lack of understanding and persecute us for wanting to enjoy our cars.
the reason why we shouldn't need to fit ABS is its not required under any version of the ADRs. Simple as that.

Hi Treeve
the guy I spoke to from NSW was literally anti-ICV.
He said words to the effect of 'I don't know why you guys are so stupid that you want to build your own car when for the same money you could buy a Mercedes Benz'.
I said 'anyone can buy a car'.

I wonder what their thoughts are on the ackermann steering principle, SAI, scrub radius etc?
It is simply ridiculous to expect a builder of an ICV to fit ABS.
Way too many variables to adapt from one car to another.

Should we in NSW who are building ICV's write to the Minister, or would it be a total waste of time?

its the sort of thing I'd expect we'd get more benefit from if it was organised by ALL of the NSW Clubs, circulated and signed by the members then submitted.. is a crazy situation in NSW at the moment, and I expect it will take more than a little while to swing back to anything resembling reasonable or comparable to the other States.

But if we do nothing this will only take longer and empower them further. Write to the minister? That's up to you, but it's a new minister who isn't aware of all of the previous politics by these individuals, so may have a different take - and every day is a day that these people get to tell the boss what a good job they're doing.

It's all about social media these days if you want numbers to make a difference...
Start a petition on FB and you could possibly get a hellava lot more signatures than just club numbers !!
Send that to the relevant ministers.
Increase awareness.

I agree with Kyleb's thoughts. We need to inform the ministers that we, the voting public, don't agree to the Bureaucrat's sentiments and need those minister's to make those bureaucrat's to toe the line (the law/requirements) or else they get retired. Unfortunately those bureaucrat's will get a huge settlement but that is another story.... Be active is the key.

Being in California, known for its asinine bureaucracy, I'm amazed that our idiots have been finally outplayed at their own game.

A bit of input from across the water: many of us use 1994-1996 mustang ABS in our replicas. Works great in my FFR MK4.

A few hundred USD, plus your labor for a used 1994-96 Mustang unit. And easy for any gearhead to install/

Then change your uprights and suspension to fit the required parts.
Remember, it's not just cobras that are ICVs, and working into incorrect interpretations by the RMS makes it harder not easier.
