Hi Will.. what are you anticipating as the final weight on this one, and more importantly the power to weight.. was waiting for the carbon fiber tub to make an appearance, but it seems like its not going to happen..

Hey Chris, I would suggest somewhere around the 1200+Kg mark with this engine and trans package; the beauty with this design will be that we can use the Audi quattro manual AWD transaxles and couple them to Windsors, Boss motors or LSA if we want to and then there would be some weight savings as the 5speed auto/sequential box is bloody heavy and the engine albeit alloy is a big bulky engine... There is not much different in the chassis to chassis weight between this set up and the std chassis set up.

As for Carbon fibre, well lets just say there will be none to be seen but to overcome the weight differential is all a matter of horsepower...

Thanks Will.. Would have expected a few hundred kg more given the mass in that suspension and driveline.. watching with interest..

Yeah Chris, a little bit more weight will make for a better ride on the road (softer feel) but the twin or single turbo set up will still make this girl get off here bum.. lol I have two AR .48 Garret turbo's for the engine, but I am thinking it would be easier with a single turbo set up.. Need to finish the drive system off first then worry about that after I think.

Fortunately for me I have a gun fibre glasser for a son (only 15 years old), whom has made me some race seats and is making me a GT40 dash at the moment, and then will work with me to pump out a couple of cobra bodies.. It's good to keep the skills in the family.
Love the way these seats sit in both my Cobra and GT40#2.. Very comfortable already without the trim on them.

Hey Chris,
if the seat is solidly mounted and in a fixed position then no ADR for any seat is required, I believe it is the same across all states but I could be wrong.

ADR #3 sure applies, in Vic anyway, plus the one (forget the number) for headrest height.

OK, that's handy to know as in S.A. a fixed seat is not subject to any ADR only the hinged seats. The seat height for the head rest is a consideration though but I am not entirely sure what that measurement is..

Thanks Will... the things you find out along the way.. !

Overalll height is somewhere north of 900mm... NSW regs also stipulate that the car must fit a 75% of the population by mean size.. so if the seat is fixed in that instance the pedals would need to move to accommodate.

That is correct Chris - that's the way my GT40 is set up, but in reality once you find the sweet spot for your seating position and pedals they never change..

Spot on!
If someone else is lucky enough to be offered a drive and they can't fit your car, then they miss out.
Being built like a giraffe I've had to forego some tasty drives in a Super 7, a TVR Cerbera, a Dino 246 and a Toyota 2000 GT, to say nothing of every other Cobra in the club except Brad's Pace.

cheers guys.. the point I was raising was that to pass under the current NSW regs you need to be able to accommodate 75% of the population by size.... both tall and short, to pass. !

That seems like a "tall" order (pardon the pun)

A bit more progress on the AWD Cobra today with the steering column positioned in place (nice and central to the seat position), the trans tunnel is starting to come together and I have made it wider to allow for the exhausts to run down either side of the trans inside the tunnel and shoot out through underneath the rear cradle as per the original path on the Audi's - should work a treat when the exhaust pipes are heat wrapped.

The front suspension arms are mocked up for relative position and I have designed the top arm mount plates so I can get them laser cut and then that will allow me to finalise the suspension in the mock up stage in any case. Look like the original struts are going to get the old heave-ho... and coil overs to replace them in the front/rear shock design set up.

Are we taking bets on how he does it?

I'm thinking chain or belt drives to bring the drive forward. Big toothed belts like they use on Harley rear ends.

or some 90 deg gearboxes off a conveyor belt system I used one of these recently on a steering rack assembly on a race car
