Do you know who owns this 1970s Daytona shell?
I am trying to track down the owner of a fiberglass Daytona shell I have been custodian of since 2010 here in Brisbane. The shell s at least 30 years old according to the date stamp on photos I have seen so I don't think it is a modern replica, possibly a copy moulded from of one of the originals?? I borrowed it from an independent Jaguar mechanic called Ron Old up here in Brisbane in 2010 who was in turn minding it for the original owner?? When I went to return it to his shop he had closed business and I have been searching for him since. The shell has a rolling chassis under it of sorts. I believe the original owner was from either Sydney or Victoria. Does anyone know who it could be? I just want to give it back to him as it is filling my garage and no I can't sell it as it is not my property. If I cannot locate Ron or the true owner in next month I will be handing it over to the Qld Gov't Public Trustee who will sell it at one of its public auctions for whatever is bid for it. I would prefer to see it back with its rightful owner so can anyone help with Ron's location? Car is available to anyone who can genuinely assist to view

Don't hand it over to the public trustee . It will just die there and go to scrap. Hang onto it and keep searching. If need be hoist it up into your rafters . Good luck !

Mark, can you post a pic. Im not sure as to its "flopped off an original" but I know the DRB Daytona owners were of that understanding.
The 30 year thing might tie in the DRB as well. If you post a pic I may be able to tell you if its a DRB based on its windscreen and rear shape etc.
You could also contact directly Todd at DRB Sportcars. Search for his PM on the forum.
Cheers Matt

Call Jeff Bryant, Cranky Mechanic, Kirrawee NSW. He had a few shells, stored in Sydney and Melbourne. May be able to help.

Don't give it to the government. Sell it and donate the money to charity. That way a deserving person will buy it and a deserving person will get the money.
if its been in your possession for nearly 10 years and no one has been looking for it i say its yours to do as you please. Not exactly a small item to store for someone.

Check out the Abandoned Goods legislation in Qld.
It would probably cover any requirement to advertise "the goods" depending on your valuation of them, prior to claiming ownership of them.
If you then own the goods you can dispose of them as you see fit.
You could also consider placing a lien on the goods for storage after a reasonable period of time had passed (say 12 months) leaving about 9 years. The goods would not be discharged to anyone until the lien was satisfied.
Ask your local Police station or community legal advice centre for advice.
In this situation it sounds like it is not a motor vehicle, it is only goods.
What would you do if a flatmate or tenant moved out leaving a bed, wardrobe, or other personal effects etc. behind and didn't pick them up in a reasonable time frame?

I am pretty sure all that is required is for you to place an advert in the classifieds section of local paper advertising you are going to sell to recoup the storage fees.
Once this is done you are permitted to sell the car, what you choose to do with the money is up to yourself, spend or charity sound fine to me.

Unfortunately Qld bailment laws mean I can never claim ownership and having got legal advice both privatey and from Qld public trustee I must return it to rightful owner no matter how long has passed or face possible criminal charges if I dispose of it unless the owner is dead (I know sounds crazy!). So wll post some images tomorrow so bopefully z omeone can identify it. Thanks for you comments

Have you tried the Jaguar Club of Queensland to see if Mr Old is known to them?
https://www.jagqld.org.au/contacts
A Ronald Old passed away in Oakford, WA, in April 2013, but I have no more details.

Well, considering nobody really knows you have it and you have had it for 10 years, I would rent a covered trailer and drop it off somewhere within the 42 million acres of the outback and claim said unknown owner came and picked it up while you were at work.

Did you contact Todd at DRB as per my earlier post?
These 2 Coupes below are 2 of the apparent 5 DRB had bodies for. Both reside in QLD. The DRB guys could confirm that front suspension but looking at these 2 versus your body Im not convinced its a DRB.
I suggest again calling Peter or Todd Ransom as they may be able to shed much more light on this subject than most.
