Hi Arks,

Welcome. It's good to see another Aussie member and even better to see another Melbourne member.

Cheers

You call that a chassis. I thought it was an old coat hanger left over from one of Dougs suits. Thats about all that is left of it!

Andy.

Welcome to the club, Arks. Great choice of Cobra, too! There aren't many Robnells up here in Qld, but the ones here look fantastic.

Andy and Paul - what is it with Doug Pearce and chopping up chassis'?!? I've seen Andy's photos of the modifications done to his chassis, and now I hear of Paul's Swiss Cheese build..... Sounds like a theme happening here!

OK, now that Melbourne is outrepresenting Qld, I think I might have to go on a recruiting drive....

Hi Mike, Andy and Craig, thanks for the welcome, I've been checking this club out everyday for the last couple of months, its fantastic. I've Learnt so much, With all the knowledge you guys share, I"m sure I'll be bugging you guys from time to time.

P.s Craig, as for my cobra, its actually not a Robnell, I was about to build a Robnell when I registered, Hence the name, I was not patient enough to save and build a Robnell. So I bought a ready made cobra.
I was at their factory two weeks ago, after seeing them close up, I might get them to build me a rolling chassis and take it from there.

Cheers Ahmed

So - what sort of Cobra did you get? In the end, it's really irrelevant what brand you have, but I'm always curious....

At least you have a Ford engine - there seem to be entirely too many LS1 Chevy Cobras down south!!!!

Talking

Andy,
I don't know that talking about Dougs' suits like that would be benificial to your build, consiering his not finished with you yet!!!

Craig,This mod .can't be blamed on Dougy, it's Mike Moores' doing,
the front end of his X7 Roadster is going to be grafted on,a very simple change. it gives me a fully adjustable front end with big light wieght modern braking, power steering, extra room up front for the vert.mounted alloy radiator and removes that big mass of jag components.
Depending on how the mikes x7 based cobra goes at Calder in a couple of weeks we may even run it with a cantilevered inboard spring setup. All the sudden i'm excited about this car again!!!!!!! Paul.

Craig, I think I have actually put more steel into my chassis than what we have taken out. Perhaps just repositioned it.

Andy.

Mike, do those Gen 3 jobs come as a buy 1 get 1 free deal? My brothers SS ute has nearly chewed one up in 8000kms as well as rear suspension!

Paul, I'd sell my car right now just to buy a JBL Cobra just to have that amazing anodised rocker-arm suspension. http://www.jblmotor.com/images/rockers.jpg

Does Mikes new Cobra already have that suspension fitted, or this that in the planning stages?

Mike, yes I did get the photos - thanks! I sent you a reply as soon as I got them, but my emails seem to go missing in action with monotonous regularity... I've acutally used on of your photos as my home page at Q777.com ! Never mind the copyright, huh!!! Regarding the motors, there are enough Chev and Lexus motors up here that it'll take the LS1 a while to take over.

Andy - shame on you - don't mention the oil consumption problems in front of Chevy guys! Or the weak factory clutches. Or the third gear problems. Or the rear suspension..... I've heard of a few XR6 Turbos going back for transmission work, so I can't be too cocky about Fords, I suppose.

G'day Ahmed, how are ya?
It is allways good to see new people in oz with one of these cars.
I too am going the LS1 route, probably a very similar set up as Mike and Sloth.
Still not sure if i will go with the stroker or not but i have until december to decide on that.
I went out this queens birthday weekend and watched the finke desert race, Had a great weekend and will camp down the track next year.
My boss ended up 3rd in cars after rolling twice on the way to finke and then looseing 3rd gear about 80kls from home, and then throwing a drivebelt and haveing to stop and replace it about 30kls from home.

Craig ,
It's a sweet looking setup the Jbl ,when mike originally built the West Wyalong cobra i put him on to the Jbl site and it was freaky how similar the 2 cars were in design. His cobra was a cant/susp up front not to the same elegance of the Jbl but just as technically sound in it's application.
After talking over the weekend and some furious measuring it was such a simple graft and of great benifit to to overall balance of the car I just had to do it. My wife told mike he had created a monster in me as all i do is talk about the cobras REBIRTH!!!
I don't know that the cant. idea will be applied to Mikes car but definitly to mine ,it was something that poped back into his head as we were about to walk out the door and after looking at it,an easy adaptation to his existing cobra setup.
And on FORDS.........
As long as those FORDS keep WINNING i wouldn't care what failures the streeters have !!If it's only to keep those CHEV Sorry Holden fans QUIET!!!!!!

OZ - Sounds fantastic! I can't wait to see what you end up with!

How much of Skaife's own money do you think went into the purchase of HRT?
