Cobra Stripes
You can probably tell by looking at my Car that I didn't follow any specific measurements or guidelines when developing my Cobra's paint style.
But I do realise that there are a lot of guys out there looking for that classic American racing team look.
I've just had an email from one of the Vic club members asking how wide the original racing stripes were and whether or not they had pin stripes on the outer edge.
Can someone please find some specs for this gentleman?

Well that was just to darn easy wasn't it.
Now that we have the technical information sorted.
People’s thoughts on:
Why do so many Cobra owners paint their cars to mimic the American racing team?
It seems ironic that back in the sixty guys painted their cars in team colour to individualise them on the racetrack.
These days it seems that 50% of the cobras on the road in Australia are blue with 2 white stripes.
I love going to the nationals and checking out a cobra were the owner have stamped they individuality on the car with a new or different colour or stripe configuration.
On the other hand I do appreciate that some owners are trying to replicate that exact American racing look.
And some do pull it off with spectacular results.
Anyway that's my 2 cents worth.
What do you think?

Thanks guys, that was good timing on stripe info as I am about a month away from painting.
My approach to building the Cobra has been that with all the ADR compliance required it is never going to look like an original so Iam building mine to suit my ideas( wont know how valid they are until I drive it).
I am aiming to make the vehicle as light as possible with emphasis on stopping and handling. I selected the GEN 111 for two reasons, first its about the only affordable motor that will be accepatable (ADR complient) in NSW next year and second it produces sufficient power from a very light compact unit. I have gone for 17" wheels as this allows 330 mm brakes on front and a better selection of tires.
As for colour its going to be black with red stripes.
The RTA is making life very hard for individually constructed vehicles in NSW. There are at least 6 Cobras that have been completed for about 10 months that still do not have VIN numbers.
Looking forward to Wakefield. Anyone know what the program is?
Regards,
Phil Neall

Hi all,
Sorry boring.
As PPG Guardsman blue and white stripes it is. I went thru the black with yellow idea for a while but came back to the original colours.
I found the stripe specs. in the back of the Tony D. Branda catologue. Must check that they are the same as the ERA site stuff.
Where on the site are the specs.
The specs in the catologue show that the stripes narrow as they go towards the front and the back.
I am really under pressure now so with four weeks to go I think I will make Wakefield.
But in Gel coat.
Will get some photos for my posting bit.h to put on my site.
Cheers all
Bernie

Figures
If it weren't for the fact you guys are up-side-down, you'd get this figured out.
Why is it you all paint your cars blue? Why not red or black or something other than blue.
Gold is very nice. Trick it up with a an additive that allows it to prism the light. Lay a couple of mate' black stripes.
Now your talking style.
Hope you all have a great weekend!!!!!!!

One of my favorite "classic" combos was a white car with flat black striping to reduce glare. Just looks mean!

Hey Ren Man
You been peeking on the Aussie sites and found my secret colour scheme.
Just to get the car to the Cobra Nationals in New South Wales
I have hit the white gel coat with KH flat black stripes. Need to check widths of stripes. May have made them to narrow.
My posting bitc. may get my photos on soon.
Only problem everyone who has seen the car likes it
Cheers

Bernie,
Can't wait to see the pics! I'm sure it's going to look awesome! By the way, there are no hard and fast rules on striping. Some are tapered from 6" (U.S.) to 7.25" and some (like mine) were 7" all the way with 1/4" space inside and out with 1/4" pin-stripe.
My car (while there were many "Red and White" had unique spacing and stripping as well as the only white interior with red and white piping and map pockets and white guages that I know of?
You're going to have a great looking and individually "your's" car!
Cheers
