Boss Kits
Ok,
I've got an AU Falcon upper column fitted with a standard AU Steering Wheel.
Time to replace the wheel with something that looks the part.
Problem is you can't seem to purchase a boss kit where an airbag is fitted (apparantly illegal to sell such a product) even though the airbag is not connected.
Can anyone recommend where I can get such a boss kit from or even someone who can custom make one?
I know you can get such a beast for the jap import cars, but not seen one for a Ford.
Help please.

I'm going through the steering wheel boss adventure at the moment. I bought a Moto Lita wood rim wheel from Finish Line and it has a large 9 bolt center. No one makes a boss to suit this wheel on a Suzuki steering column. This is no big deal and I planed to make the boss all along. What I'm saying is where there is a will there is a way.
The main thing you need to determine is what spline you have on the end of your column. Ford aren't going to reinvent the wheel for every new Falcon they produce so you will probably find the spline is the same as the EA, EB... etc previous models without airbags fitted. The other difference might be the indicator cancel cam and horn contact may be different but this stuff is pretty easy to adapt. If you can remove your existing wheel I would go down to an auto accessory store and compare it with some of the older Falcon boss kits.
I'm using a SAAS boss as a basis for my application. They are cast aluminium so are easy to machine and modify. Some brands are aluminium with steel inserts cast in and they can be more difficult to work with. I'll machine the nose of it to press into a larger 9 bolt ring I'll turn up. I'll then weld the ring onto the boss to make one solid piece.
Good luck

Mike,
You make sound all so easy!
I'm told by Revolution Racegear that the splines between the AU and earlier models are ever so slightly different, but they are currently looking into it for me; hopefully with a cost effective solution.
Thanks for your advise.
Spoke to Ford and they charge $1,100 !!!!!! for a momo type wheel - typical Ford Accessories ripoff - would be cheaper to change the column.
Will see what Revolution say.
Maybe you could knock me one up - only joking
Fun cars these Cobra's

Problem solved.
You were right Mike.
The EF, EL and AU splines are the same.
Off to the accessory shop for the boss kit.

Momo wheel now fitted.
Not the traditional look, but suits the car.

Good one ! Next time your car is down at Scott's place, get him to modify that "Economy" button on the shifter console. I think the wiring for a nitrous solenoid could be put to much better use than an Economy button...
Do you have any photos of the 4WD suspension height of your car

Thanks guys.
Cameron, if purdy means looks good then thank you very much.
Craig, once Scott fixes the front, I'll post a photo.
All terrain at the back, but still a lowrider at the front. Drive backwards and I now clear the speed humps.
The kids definitely want neons behind the pipes. I could rename it the blue stealth bomber. Maybe it would set a trend for the Cobra die hards. What do you think?
Oh and the economy switch is the power mode, which lights up on the dash as the traction control (confusing or what). Nitreous solenoid - now there's a thought.
Whatch this space.

Peter, the nitrous can come in handy for so many things.
An armrest, for example (Taken pre-Aussie Mike polished knob...)

Very bl**dy good Craig.
Hope you didn't have copyright on that pic as one of the kids used it on MSN to show to his mates that we had now got NOS.
The response was WOWWWW.
What is that software prog you have?
Jack took this pic today showing the subtle but definite lift at the back.

Very nice ! It looks nicely balanced just as is. I hope you're not lifting the front too much Scott always used to complain that I was trying to set up my car too low. As usual, he was right... I hope he doesn't read this !!!
Copyright? There's no such thing on the internet, as far as I'm concerned... Software program? If you're talking engine management software - Motec M800. If you're talking picture manipulation software - Photoshop. The nitrous bottle is real though, no fake that time ! If your kids friends think you have nitrous, you can't NOT put it on now. Steve at Redcliffe Dyno is the man you need to talk to. He lives and breathes nitrous...
