Question Reliable Brisbane/Gold Coast Engine Builders

As I am new to this neck of the woods, I wonder if anyone could point me in the direction of a good engine builder in the Brisbane/Gold Coast area? I want to stay with the 302, just give it a bit more life... okay.... a lot more life

Thanks

Cameron

Cameron,

I can certainly recommend Paul Geary Automotive at Slacks Creek (07 3208 9872) to do whatever you want with your engine - uptune / detune - any tune you want.

He built a friends Cobra (302) approximately a year ago and comes across as a knowledgable friendly guy (I've met some strange sorts since owning my Cobra).

My Cobra is presently with him getting some engine work done.

Nice tidy / big garage setup he has, which in my eyes means he is an organised tidy specialist.

Good luck.

Thanks Peter,

I will give him a call. I too have met some strange folk in the car enthusiast world, my only fear is that I am becoming one of them!

Regards

Cameron

Cameron - what are your goals, and what sort of budget are you on? Basically, if you want to spend $1000 and want maybe a new cam/carb/manifold fitted to the engine in your car, most places should be fine with that.

If you're removing the engine, and plan on building a bit of a monster, I'd recommend either Tony O'Connor from TOCA Performance 3209 1606, or Steve at Cragar Performance on 3800 1958. Cragar dyno tuned my motor, and did a wonderful job! They are also contracted exclusively to Steve Ellery's V8 Supercar team for engine building and data analysis. Cragar are also previous Australian Pro Stock drag racing national champions. All Ford products, too!

Tony builds engines from his house, so his overheads would obviously be a little lower than Cragar. This might or might not be reflected in the engine cost. Both definitely worth a call though...

Thanks Craig,

I am looking for a reliable but competitive clubsport setup. In my previous car, I had a complete rebuild to accomodate a B&M144 blower on a traditional Holley setup.. easy 400's HP on good fuel and high boost.

I am looking to discuss the project with a good builder. I could always use the guys who did the first one, but they are in Melbourne and I like to drop by to check on the progress.

Thanks for the refferals, I will sort through and take it from there.

Regards

Cameron

Same here ! Cragar built a 302W with a B&M 144 blower for a TC Cortina I owned. The previous owner had the car built. That motor certainly livened up the old Corty I loved the sound of the blower when it was making boost - it's a much nicer sound than my Vortech...
