Ls1 Drag Nationals
Morning all.
I've entered my little cobra in the 1st Ls1 Drag Nationals, with test and tune today and the drags on Saturday afternoon.
I've been lucky enough to have Aussie Mike along for the ride and much needed support, not to mention technical advice.
Will post some pics this evening of the test and tune and more on Sunday after the results.
So if anyone wants to cruise up for some support, as om the only cobra up against all this big HSV boys.
Hope to do well.

Just Back home
Well a productive day with my best time over the 1/4 at 12.37 with a 112.42 Mph speed.
Constant times were at 12.5 to 12.7 so looking at a dial in time tommorow at 12.7.
Tell you there were some monster cars there.
Even a Hi Ace van with a jet engine in it with the after burner shooting a 30 foot flame out of the back, going to take some snags tommorow.
My car was on the dyno when originally set up at 250 rwkw, am hoping the LS1 Edit guru migh take a look at it tommorow, some of the guys are at 360rwkw, but you got to get the power to the ground.

Just curious...what the hell IS a KW in terms of horse power?
I looked it up:
KW X 1.34 = H.P.
250KW= 335
360KW=482
eh eh,,,,I still got you beat!

Power
No problems Cameron,
Last night at the drags i learnt alot, from testing what the Superformance can do, Aussie Mike will be able to explain better how i went, but those with more power tended to wheel spin to much and not get the power to ground.
In a nut shell , we also had traction problems, then a small clutch issue with the damn driver not getting of the clutch all the way, then pratice was over with me lined up...
It went Yellow..... Then GREEN....

Garrett's car had been running strong all week end but we weren't able to get a string of consistent runs together to work out a dial in time. We had traction trouble and had been trying different tyre presures and rear spring preload.
The racing was a Dial your own Elimination format where you nominate the time that you are going to run and the starting lights are handicapped accordingly. Garrett ran a 12.3 on Friday but mostly he was running around the 12.7 mark. On the Saturday Race day there were so many cars and classes running that we didn't get enough runs to try and improve the times so we setled on a 12.7 dial in and decided to wing it. Garrett had been pulling some great reaction times all week end, generally between .450 and .550. This was important since in DYO drag racing the whole thing can be won or lost on the start line. As the evening got cooler Garrett's car would be making more HP and get quicker. My advice was that if he so if he was in front at the finish line that he should back off and win by a narrow margin in case he ran faster than his dial in and lose by default.
Well Garrett lined up next to a Commodore Ute on slicks running a 12.6 dial in. Garrett did a strong burnout on this run to please the crowd. He nailed the start with a .450 reaction time and ran his quickest 60 foot time all weekend at about 1.7 secconds. He'd been doing 1.9s and 2.0s all weekend. He hosed past the Commodore and was on track for probably the quickest run he's ever done and knew it. At the other end of the strip he backed off as he was well in front but he backed off a bit to early and the Commodore just pipped him on the line. Garrett ran a 12.8 at 88MPH (normally 12.7 @ 112MPH) just outside his dial in but not enough to take the win. Still it was a good race and the Commodore driver came up afterwards to say he was amazed how quick Garrett got off the line and was very surprised to win. In my opinion If Garrett had kept his boot into it he would have run an 11 seccond quater.
So out of this we learned that the tyres Garrett was using need a lot more heat to get them working properly. Big burnouts are the order of the day so look out next time.
Cheers

Looks like a good day out.
New camera car on the Freeway - blue XR8 utility??
Did the Mike Moore Extreme Roadster run, I heard he was there.
Best E.T? Best top speed? Did you get them for your runs Garrett.
What other times were run by participants?
Cheers

Atleast Garretts tyre suppliers will be happy to hear that.
Maybe the next purchase will be ore rims and some slicks?
