Fuel Pump Fix
For those DRB guys,
I have posted a few threads concerning fuel issues especially the vapour smells always hanging around in the boot.
Well, I think I've sorted it
Last week, my fuel pump began giving up the ghost (whining and loss of power) so bit the bullet and bought a new one ($190).
Only problem was that Jackie hid it just so I would concentrate on the bathroom reno which also started las week (multi talented white collar worker )
Anyway, to move the trailer full of crap I need to move the Cobra. Therefore fuel pump replacement time
Replaced the pump and resealed the plate (using "Aviation Form a Gasket" - sticky stuff). Hey presto - no more vapour smells.
Only issue is why did my old pump give up after only 11,000 ks ?
Ah well, at least I'm back on the road in between removing walls / windows etc

I've heard of Carter pumps failing fairly frequently. Was this your brand of pump per chance?
My low pressure Carter "lift pump" is noisier than both of the other Bosch Motorsport pumps combined. All noise, no action....

Bathroom reno
Hmmmm..... a bathroom renovation, I guess a bloke doing one of those will need a tiler I wonder if I know any good ones?
Maybe we could barter it - you know I do the tiling and you drive me around in your cob telling people it's mine!! - the only thing is we will have to lie to everyone and tell them it has a decent motor in it! Like a Gen 3 perhaps?

Thanks for your offer Mr. Tiler, but already fixed up (Deano).
Talking about engines, a purist would say it has to be a Ford, but then again a pure purist would say a 427 or 289.
As far as I'm concerned if the motor does the business and the exhausts sound like a Cobra should then you're onto a winner
Personally, if I was to have another Cobra I would go for the Lexus Twin Cam (check out Paul Gillis's).
One good thing about the 302 - plenty of space to bolt on those shiny things

Paul Lexus (twin x twin) cam sounded the best of all of the cars up at Warwick. Who would have thought the smallest capacity, highest technology engine would have sounded the most like a big block while accelerating down the back straight.....
There's also something cool about seeing a showcar doing it's thing on a racetrack !

Hi Craig.
The pump is a Global Autospare product - bought from Thompsons (suits an NC Fairlane). No other brand name is on the unit, neither is there on the old one.
Seems fuel systems are a topical subject at the moment.
Mine seems to be working well - no noise, no smells from the boot - very pleased
Don't want to speak too soon, but everything is working very well. May be its because I'm not using the car, other than school runs due to bathroom reno work - enjoy your freedom, one day you'll be in the same position
Did you buy a property in the end?

Peter - you can be sure that I'm savouring the freedom to be able to spend money only on myself. It'll probably seem to be only the blink of an eye before wife/kids/commitments bring my selfish spending habits to an end...
I bought a little investment place a couple of months back. I'll live in it for 12 months (for capital gains / stamp duty purposes), then look for a place to call home. You know the type I'm looking for - 2 bedroom house with a 6 bay shed out back. Kitchen and bathroom might need renovating, but the 4 post hoist in the shed will be in perfect working order
