Joy and pain! Saw my first Lola T70, then saw it crash...
The historics race meeting was held at QR last weekend. What an event - maybe an equal match for Speed on Tweed. I didn't know that there were any Lola T70s in the country. It turns out there is, and it looks and sounds as mindblowing as I'd always imagined. Amazing !!!
The owner wasn't afraid to give it heaps - full noise down the straights, and carrying decent speed through the corners. It all came unstuck when he spun going into turn 3 on the short course, only to be cleaned up by an open wheeler following behind.
Damn, I hate to see historic race cars damaged.....

Wohhh,
Lola's were well used back in the UK.
They certainly pack a punch!
How about an Ultima for those wet days?

Some boring trivia from the old days: CSX 3022 (see the famous cutaway poster) was owned by my friend Bruce Waller back in the 70s, and in those days sported a 427 SOHC engine, gold wheels and a red, French cat house interior. When he sold it, he bought the Lola T70/Chevy that I believe had been raced by Penske. I saw it on the day it arrived, track dirt, bugs and all. Still damn impressive. I lost track of Bruce and the car in the course of a couple of job-related moves.

Marco,
I think I have pics of Bruce and the Lola from Lime rock about 2 years ago, he happened to running with a friend's 908/03.
Next trip to SPF land in Braselton, I will be happy to share the pics.
Regards,
Greg

Greg:
I look forward to seeing pics of Bruce and the Lola. If I remember correctly, he wasn't a bad driver. We got our SCCA regional tickets on the same day out at Bridgehampton, Bruce in a BP Corvette and me in a Pinto(!).
BTW, we were over at SPF land early on Saturday, and spent some time in the red Daytona (okay, Brock). After taking 15 minutes to figure out the starting drill, my wife and I had a fun ride up 53.
We're still evaluating a bunch of Cobra alternatives, but I will admit that the 'Vette is now officially on the market.

Hi all
I was lucky enough to see Jack Rosens with his Ultima at last years 'Run N Gun'. Whilst I had seen one or two articles on the car in Kit Car magazine I was really impressed with his job on the car.
I cannot recal the name of the guy? but he had two of the T70 replicas at the 'Run N Gun' and they were simply amazing.
I think its something about that big sound coming from the back as they thunder down the track.
Post some picture on the forum? Would love to see the Lola.
Cheers
Bernie

Craig
I just saw a photo that I think you took up at West Wylong of Mike Moore's flat black Cobra - FAAAST.
Thats the running gear that I know have in my Cobra. I have travelled just over 16,000k in six months with that set up and its going good.
Just a bit of trivia.
Cheers
Bernie

Hey Craig!
That must be everyones' nightmare.
Makes ya wonder how many of us have had a similar experience or how easy it is to get yourself into trouble in a cobra
(hopefully I won't find out when mine's finished!)
Here's a link to an exotic wrecks web page.

Click on the viper video sampler (on the left)
Now that makes ya wanna cry
Safe driving everyone
Cheers

Just wondering if anyone on the forum has entered Speed on Tweed, or Leyburn.. sounds like a blast
Craig... the challenge of wheel spin the entire length of the circuit must be almost too much to resist.

Will be at Speed on Tweed Cameron (watching)
Even Craig couldn't wheel spin all the way round this circuit!

Bernie - The motor sure sounded the part when it was in Mike's car. From memory, he was running avgas at the time. Have you dropped the compression, or was he just playing things safe back then?
Dad and I will definitely be at Speed on Tweed. Lets see what car will beat the turbo-era Ferrari F1 for jaw-dropping appeal this year..... Prolonged wheelspin on a circuit like Murwillumbah can only be achieved with a VERY competent driver. As such, I'll be going down purely as an interested spectator

Couldn't resist the opportunity. I stuck in an entry for the Honda (Cobra won't be here in time).
Let's see if they accept the entry into the rarified atmosphere of F1's and Indy Cars.
Would be a blast just to have driven it...
