Sorry Mike
I remember Bernie saying something about a Holden Commodore paint code....

Maybe he secretly want's to join the Dark Side.

Mike,

If its a holden paint code, obviously they are trying to copy FORD as I'm sure you know Guardsman Blue was a Shelby (Ford) colour.

Can't Holden produce something on their own?

Wow Bernie!

Looks fantastic!

This paintjob has certainly provided us all with an insight on how a different colour scheme can make a world of difference on the same car! Well done!

Nope, If you look closely you'll see it's actually FJ Holden Blue with a bit of metalic added which predates The Ford Guardsman Blue by several years. Jeez you Ford guys with your "If you can't beat 'em copy 'em attitude"

What else can I say to get a bite out of you guys

Cheers

Tut tut tut Muke,

Sorry, Mike (Muke sounds pretty good!)

That is indeed a tall story you say.

FJ Holden Blue - Close, but not close enough (obviously tried to copy Ford's shade)

One would think that if GM (sorry Holden) were on the dark side the only colour would be black, but then again that would be copying Ford (Model T)

Mike - Aussie Mike

Having seen the Cobra on the road in gel coat white you will appreciate the transition that the paint has made.

Once I get all the jewellery back on, I think I will just sit and look at it.

The difference between the first photo and the completed re - finish is unbelievable. The silver and black does look very good.

Don't know if your painter had any trouble with the gumballs, but it was very hard to get the boot/trunk right as there are some many changes in angles.

The bonnet was easier to do as the surface is totally flat.

I will need to think about the placement of the Cobra badge on the boot/trunk as the gumball there is close to the number plate light.

I may place it slightly higher in the bottom of the gumball.

Cheers

Thanks, the colour always appealed to me. I have been looking around on the forum here for ages to pick a colour and always headed back to the Guardsman Blue.

I was luck as Kris Kincaid from Shelby American kindly emailed me with some information and photos that 'sold me'.

I then headed down the path of trying to get a close as possible to the race car appearance as possible.

I guess once its all finished it should look close.

The aluminium bodies certainly are a very good option. I did some figures on a fibreglass body plus paint/preparation . v. aluminium and it worked out about $5,000 extra for the aluminium.

Wisdom of 'hindsight' - maybe next time..

Cheers

Hi all

Unfortunately, the colour code for "Guardsman Blue at PPG has been lost.

I guess it's a pity that my Cobra was the last one painted in that colour - oh welll

Bernie,

The gumballs drove me crazy! The painter & I did it the hard way! We taped around a faint line drawn with pencil! Not perfect but come up pretty good considering! Was blind by end of day, too much focussing on the line! Glad it's done!

Bernie,

as for the badges I'm thinking of placing the bonnet badge just beneath the gumball and the boot just inside the gumball! If you are to place any numbers, the boot badge will not be in the way!

I will possible do the same with the badges. I was looking at them tonight and think there is enough white in the badges and they will look good placed as you have indicated.

I am considering grinding the pins off the back of the badges and using a panel shop type adhesive rather than drill the bonnet and boot lid.

The gumballs were first cut out of sign - writers vinyl and then stuck on. Doug and Dave then cut the circle into sections when they got down to the folds and overlapped each piece.

Looks good now. Its amazing how many digfferent directions the boot runs away to.

Anyway glad its done now thanks to Doug and all.

Cheers

Bernie,

Definitely grind the pins off, good idea! I will be doing the same, no nasty little holes in the body after all it's been through!!!

Looks even better after three or four days.

There is an adhesive that the panel shops use that is good. Will get the name.

Bernie,

there is a 3M panel adhesive. I used it for my 427 badges... works great.

It's in multiple widths and mine was in a green pack.

The 3m tape is the way to go, it will hold your badges on very well.
