Craig.....You and your dad look very alike at similiar age.

Barry Singleton...where have I heard that name before?.

Used to be a fellow work at BMC motors in Brisbane by that name...then he went to......hmm....I think RACQ..then I think he opened a car dealership somewhere.

He used to live at Greenslopes

Used to waterski up at Long pocket with him. He had a younger brother called....Tibby. Tibby had a panel beating shop at west end for a while.

Tibby also had a Mk11 Zephyr ( as did I at the time) with waggott cam, head job, extractors and twin 1.5" SU's. Best of all he had the overdrive box. We would tune his SU's by ear tube until the intake manifold developed frost...we knew it was spot on when the frost would form.

Wonder if they are the same fella?

Mum had a look at Dad's old photo tonight, and she was amazed at how similar we look.

Les - sounds familiar. Barry owned a Chrysler dealership in Springwood, and had a brother or two. He lived in Sunnybank while he owned the McLaren. Brothers.... ? I think he had one or two, but I don't know anything about them. Barry still plays with race cars. He has a couple of Renmax open wheelers at the moment, one of which was competing at Speed on Tweed. Dad loves events like that and the HRCC Historics as much to see the cars and drivers in the pits as much as seeing the cars on the track. It's always a great opportunity to catch up with old motor racing mates from the last 30 or so years.

PCC - Haha

I wonder if there's a market for a road going replica of the M8B?

The body doesn't look to complicated to copy and it could be built on a tubular steel chassis much like the GT40 replicas. I don't think you could get it registered with an injected BB chev in the back but an LS1 might do.

Cheers

Peter - Nice looking truck. You can't underestimate Mike though - last I knew he had an F100 and an AU Pursuit Ute, so he knows what's best

The Nitro machine looks the business. The steering and suspension really is amazing. I had a look at other Nitro machines on Ebay, and didn't realise what a popular hobby it was. I've always thought that a remote control car that had the power to spin the tyres effortlessly would be a lot of fun. The old battery powered 1:18 cars that I had as a 10 year old needed trans fluid on a marble floor before they'd even think about spinning the tyres.

Don't even get me started about the fire we started in a friend's house after we built a Scalectrix racetrack up a flight of stairs, then dabbed sewing machine oil all along the track. Who'd have thought such little cars could make so much tyre smoke. Who'd have thought the oil would get so hot that it'd set fire to the carpet...... That was in Grade 7. The stage was set from an early age

Good luck with the auction !

Aussie Mike

I was looking at the model also and thinking similiar thoughts.

The Ultima Can Am would be ideal and the body would not be to hard to do something similiar..

I know a modeller!!

May catch up tomorrow (Saturday)

Bernie

Bernie

I wish I had my credit card handy

Get that credit card out Bernie - the car is on Ebay now... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....496415410&rd=1

The Manta is supposed to be a decent sort of kit, and this seems to be good value, but it still looks a bit "kit-carish". I don't know - maybe it's the balls-out race parts on the real ones that make the cars look so good, but it's these parts that aren't able to be used on road cars. Monster wings, even bigger slicks, 8+ litre all alloy mechanical injected big block Chev, in the weeds stance, etc, etc.
