Thanks to all for the quick replies and to Peter for translation = bonnet (hood). I Love it!!! I tried to spend a few months in your country as a graduation present to myself way back when. I never made it and has been a life long dream to bounce around your homeland. Now I know why, you are all great and apparently a little insane too. I would fit in well.

What do you mean? "what is that thing in your gallery "
I think I should be insulted! That is me before coffee of course.
Or is that just me in the morning - hell I don't know.

I had considered the BMW option but I figured it would be too expensive. If money were no object, I'd possibly take the 5.0L V10 out of the upcoming M5. It puts out 373kw and 520nm.
But by the look of thing, I find it highly unlikely that it would ever fit under the bonnet of any Cobra, no matter how greatly modified! Not that I could afford it anyway!
So for now it seems as though The Darkside have a new member.

Mike , Thanks for the offer and will take you up on that some day and the baby photo guess was close but think Im much better looking now. Same grin but had far less hair back then! PCC saw the other photos he can tell ya.
Jase said his engine choice would pump out 373kw and 520nm, What is the conversion from newton meters to pounds? I would have to look it up do you know off the top of your head? Chop a hole in hood and glass bigger scoop in to make her fit.

Unfortunately, the BMW M5 engine is most likely out of the question - unless of course I can find one for a comparable price to an LS1, then I'll make it fit!. However........... when I was after the specs for the M5, I stumbled across an article regarding the new GT40, and more importantly its engine! Now I know that the Boss engines Ford have over here are just about impossible to fit to any kit. I'm going to hope that 5.4L DOHC supercharged modular V8 engine fitted to the GT40 is not the same as a Boss, but going by the lack of them going to projects at the moment, I'm going to have to assume that they are.
Anyway, here's a picture of the engine that I'd love to put in my replica.

It's pretty much the same engine Jase. Both the engine in the new GT40 and the Boss motor in the new XR8 were originally sourced from the Ford Lightning truck.
Cheers

After 130 the speedo will show a graduated guage of how many points you will loose off your licence. Once this spedo reaches 12 points the scale changes to how many months you loose your licence for.
Steve Bracks, what a d!ck if he thinks he can push something like this thru. As if people speed just to see how far they can push the needle round the speedo???
Cheers

WTF? Surely thats not serious? I mean my god what kind of world do we live in? Just because little ****s who think they're Mark Skaife go out on the roads in their hotted up Skylines that Mummy and Daddy brought, without ever thinking about making sure their child KNOWS how to drive the damn thing, isn't reason enough to ban speedos beyond 130km/hr. I mean if you want to do anything, take money out of the hands of stupid people. Or here's an idea. Mandatory advanced driving lessons for all drivers under 25 and strict limitations on what can be driven on the roads. You want to drive a high powered vehicle, you can't register unless you show PROOF that you can HANDLE it - no matter what your age. Because some people get behind the wheel of a car and don't respect the power thats it putting out doesn't mean that everyone is like that.
ARGH, I can't stand stupidity.

And the more I think about it the more insane it is! This kind of legislation can only be applied to NEW cars, so anyone who buys a second hand car will still have a speedo that reads upwards of 200km/hr. And who buys the most second hand cars, the very people that the legislation is aimed at! MORONIC!
On top of that, the car will still go beyond 130km/hr - whats worse? Not knowing what speed you're doing above 130km/hr, or knowing what speed your doing!?
And what are you going to do if someone swaps the 130km/hr speedo that they registered the car with a 300km/hr speedo in their new Cobra? Fine them? With what? There's no proof that they've been speeding. There's no proof that they're intending to speed. They've just got exactly what some person who goes out and buys a second hand skyline has!
And what about emissions! I mean there is nothing stopping me from going out and buying a 30 year old datsun tomorrow that consumes more oil than petrol and would not pass ANY emissions test. Yet I cannot REBUILD a 40 year old engine that I would lovingly rebuild, look after and sleep with if I could, and then install it in a car that would, realistically only be used every other day! I can assure anyone that I would take better car of my 427 than any of those old ladies do of their bloody " oil burning, thick smoke producing, mobile chicanes".
I hate the government!

Thanks all for conversion #'s. I agree the Big Brother approach to speedo recording and more is BS. GM was sued here in the states for recording car/engine paramiters, speed , impact G's etc. without consent or disclosure to people who purchase certian cars. They were forced to disable these recordings from cars onboard computers. The technolgy is out there without a doubt and more we have never even considered.
Just a thought on that blow through blower in the photo of the BMW M5. A few years back I built a Rod that had a 6V/71 blower remote mounted. It was driven off the crank hub but blower was mounted in front of engine not on take intake. Plumbing was not too bad as pressure did not care how it got there. Used a carb in a pressurized box like a lot of the turbo guys did for a while. Run a pressure line to top side of mech. fuel pump so its pressure was linear with boost and have fun. This will allow tons of hood clearance. Using an older Chassis like my build concept from Vette should make it exempt from emissions regulations too!
