Stewar Warner Gauge Advise

Okay,

Need some advise on this one.

As most are aware I run an XR8 cluster on my modern Cobra

The problem is that the temp gauge on the cluster has never worked as it should due to engine / cluster compatibility issues.

So intend on asking Santa to drop off a new gauge to mount on the centre consol.

Queries are:

1. Is it better to have the readout in F or C - personally prefer C degrees, but want it to be in keeping with Aussie cars?

2. Being paranoid about keeping everything in symmetry on the car (hoops, mirrors etc etc) I intend purchasing a second gauge in keeping with the temp one. However not sure what to get.

Already have tacho, speedo, voltmeter, oil pressure, and clock.

Thinking of transmission temp (auto) or engine oil temp.

Any suggestions what would be the most advantageous one to install?

I do come up with some strange queries, but its good to be different

It is my understanding the original cars came with engine oil temp.

But Vac is nice for economy, hehehehehehehe.

In a carburettored cars I've had in the past I always found a vacume guage a useful tuning tool to have in the car.

I'd probably go with an Oil temp guage Pete.

Keep the gauges metric same as the rest of your cluster.

I presume metric you mean C degrees.

The existing gauges are simply cold / hot so wasn't too concerned about the additional one's, but not sure whether you guys over here relate to C or F.

My biggest problem will be wiring them in.

Hoping I can just link of the existing senders without upsetting the computer

a lot of us who did trades etc during imperial times still talk both languages, depending on the situation, but most of us would now probably refer to degrees C for automotive talk.

Hey Pete....I was gonna rip into ya about the Stewart Warner gauges, given that you're a pom.

I was thinking you should not be a disloyal SOB and put the original Lucas gauges in the dash.

Then I remembered you denounced the place and are now an aussie...well....sort of.......adopted aussie maybe.

Don't want to get into a full scale argument here, but SMITH's.

Lucas may have been used in AC's, but SMITH's were used in the 289's before switching to STEWART WARNER

Electrics in AC cars were Lucas, whereas instrumentation was Smith's (not as in the crisps )).

Now......my comments regarding gauges had to do with the origin of the gauges...as in gauges from the ole country as opposed to guages manufactured anywhere else.

It was not a definative statement as to what was " original" or what was not.

Purely that an english gentleman would insist on gauges from his homeland.....not some other make.

"put the original Lucas gauges" had me going for a bit.

Why did'nt you just say Smith's and it would have saved on some typing bulls^&t.

Lost the ghost on owning an "English" Cobra, what with:

Ford Engine, transmission and electrics;
Jaguar suspension (might as well be Ford);
Honda seats;
Australian fibreglass and chassis;
Swedish lights and globes;
Dragway wheels;
BMW side indicators;
Japanese tyres (or is that tires) etc etc.

Even the rear number plate light comes from NZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The list goes on and on and on.......

The only thing remotely bristish is the guy who drives it and thats debatable
