Hehehehe Al, I know....and whats worse, I'm not gonna change
Just thought I'd entertain those dark side fellas with a selection of top quality, up to the minute, modern power plants.
How great are these things.....No longer do ford lovers have to settle for some inferior 10 year old lump of aluminium with dubious oiling systems.
I'm gonna duck behind the sofa now...I can hear the lazer swords being drawn as I speak.

I was talking to Peter Ransom (DRB) a couple of weeks ago (all in the name of research), and he sent the following in an email (it was related to new ADRs in NSW)..... apparently there are 3 companies in Oz importing them (in Sydney, Melbourne and Albury...).
"We have modified all our chassis's (DRB Cobra, DRB 2000 and GT40) to accept the Mustang, (Cobra hand built version) 4.6 litre, Quad Cam V8. These new Crate motors, together with the Tremec 5 speed transmission are still available for $9,900.00. The Ford ECU is not available so we have adopted the Autronic ECU and as the motor is fitted with 8 coil packs, an Autronic CDI unit. This adds about $3,500.00 to the cost."

I had a look at Python vehicles in Melbourne a couple of months ago and they presently have a R&D chassis they are building using the boss engine. It will fit but they have had to shrink the footwells and are including removable panels in the footwells to allow for changing plugs.
Looked interesting, but not much water would reach the ground if you dumped a bucket full over the engine bay.

I guess also those engines would not be ADR 79/00 approved.
I can see what you blokes are getting at with the whole dark side thing, but I just dont see the crime (maybe cos Im new and I dont know much about the Cobra culture).
I dunno, just seems the original chassis design was poor anyway (e.g. torsional stiffness) and when youve got an ADR compliant lightweight block like the LS2 its very tempting.
Would be nice if Ford cam out with a camless V8, 4 valve, lightweight, with variable length intake manifold. Say in the 5.7l capacity.

Bathrone...you are prolly right about these engines not being approved under 79/00
However, if the outcome of the exercise depicted on this site, was followed thru, then things could have been quite different.
http://www.advancedengine.com/pressPrint/pr0501p.html
A Sprintex blown 310 Kw 4.6 Litre hard top falcon would have obtained the nessessary mandate.
That engine in a cobra would have been downright mean.

The sprintex is a positive displacement supercharger from the twin screw design. Through a combination of intercooling and water injection on pump 98 ron fuel you could get a hell of alot more than 310kws out of 4.6l
As you say it would be nice if Ford did it, cos its real easy to wind the whick up on forced induction engines and with little effort you could easily melt the pistons with the amount of power Or blow the head from the block And best of all the engine would look externally stock more or less so no little yellow canaries.

The before mentioned Sean Hyland site already shows the N/A 5 litre 450HP cammer.
This engine is what we'll see in the 2005 mustang and twicked to 500HP, and maybe headed across the pond.
Sean Hyland gets 600 hp from a similiar blown version.
Ohhhh the dreams...please ford....give us options

Just how fat is that 4.6 motor? Well I found this digram on another thread that shows just how much larger the 4.6 motor is compared to the 351W and the 427FE motors. I think this motor should get a bulk discount at Jenny Craig.

A collegue at work is building a GT40 and he said the kit maker for his cant fit the big new Ford motor, and they reckon they can just barerly shoehorn in the 4.6l sized one.

From what I understand,
nobody has attempted to fit an australian dohc 5.4 engine which will become more available in future as the falcons age a little.
That version is unique to australia I believe and most of the engineering was done in oz.
Peter has only modified his chassis to take up to 4.6 quad and I think 5.4 single cam is roughly the same width.
If Ford would make a serious attempt to make a clean sheet engine design designed for performance/passenger cars instead of back engineering truck engines we may get something more compact and suitable.
But I suppose we should be happy that its overhead camshaft design at least and not still using "pushrods" like some of the "other " late model engines..
theres always a lexus i guess......

Im curious. Ive been discussing the ADRS with people who would be involved in my project and one of the things was having programmable engine management Ive been advised it then has to be locked for the maps to not be further edited.
Also the tune has to undergo a shed test, because even if the motor itself is ADR compliant by putting on an aftermarket ECU you then have to go an proove the tune is still compliant.
This all came about because one of the key people who'd be helping me on my project said to me it was blashpemous to put a chev in an AC Cobra.
Shed tests are expensive and it could take upteen many times to get it right, if ever.
I just dont see what the options are for new people like myself besides a Lexus or Chev.
