Question Wheels

WHEEL QUESTIONS

I want to use halibrand replica wheels for my Classic Revival. However, I want to have the centres chromed as well. This is simply not possible in the land of OZ. The manufacturers I have spoken to like (OZWHEELS) said it will not work because the centres that are used here are not suitable to chrome effectively. I have found a number of American sites like;

http://www.kars.com/showcase/halibrand/cobra.html

that have the wheels I would like to see on my Cobra like the “Cobra II“.

So, is importing wheels a practical move?
Why can't we get chromed Halibrand replica's here in OZ?
Has anyone gone down this path?

SPECIFIC CLASSIC REVIVAL QUESTION

I understand that generally we put 7.5 x 17 front with 5" backspace (2.5" front) & 9.5 x 17 rear 7" backspace (2.5" front ) on the C/R. I have upgraded front disks so I need to clear about 350mm. Is the reference that Ian uses to back space the same as what wheel shops use as the OFFSET?

Cheers SNKBTE

PS Engine arriving in OZ within two weeks- can’t wait, should make the broom broom sounds more authentic!

I know what you mean.

My hallibrands (see gallery) are highly polished on the rims, but not on the centres. Added to this that the centres are pretty sharp when claeaning.

I know OZVENOM has imported wheels from the US and I don't think it's a huge issue.

Plus the exchange rate is quite favourable at the moment

Ive found there is levels of "it cant be done". I would widen the search in Oz and call lots of people.

PM me if you want some tips on importing car parts.
