NZ Holiday - January
In NZ for a holiday early part of January (South Island only).
Would be good to catch up with some Cobra guys if there are any.
Any ideas?
Also, what's the best attractions to see.
We will be roaming from Christchurch to Dunedin to Te Anau to Queenstown to Wanaka to Franz Josef and back to Christchurch during our visit.

Hi PCC,
I was in the South Island a few years back cruising in a
campervan (TOP SPEED 141K'S) and had a ball.
The highliht for me was Lake Taupo, the Sav Blanc,
Queenstown, the Sav Blanc and just about every corner you
take is another magnificent view of the country, and did I mention the Sav Blanc......
Stiffy.....

You might want to consider doing Christchurch - Wanaka - Dunedin. That main road down the east coast to Dunedin is easily the most boring and the central route via Lake Tekapo and Twizel is really spectacular, well worth the extra distance. Are you coming for the Southern Festival of Speed ?

Thanks Myles,
Where, when and can I enter a Toyota Previa (only 6 months old)?
Thanks for the other advice.

There's a recent thread with a bunch of ideas for you. Depends what you're into. They are a hospitable bunch and you'll have a ball regardless. You should spend some quality time in Queenstown doing bungy, jet boating etc.

Peter
I live in oamaru ( on that boring main road down the east coast) you would be most welcome to visit if you are coming down this way.

Hi Peter,
Our best friends in the UK lived at Oamaru about 5 years ago - small world
He was the local Doctor and had a house there looking out onto the sea (as most probably do).
So definitely driving down that boring road to take some pics of the place.
Send me a PM with your address and I'll get back to you.
Thanks mate.

Looks like the Southern Festival of Speed isn't until Feb
( http://www.dunedin-tourism.co.nz/sfos/). Not sure about your Previa but I think the 'speed' bit in the title rather counts it out.
Your circular route down to Queenstown and back via the west coast looks good, you get to see some really contrasting scenery. Take a raincoat for the West Coast, it can be very wet and look out for speed traps, they are everywhere. You don't even need to be speeding these days! My brother was recently stopped and fined, points on the licence etc for 'failing to stay in lane' in other words straightening a bend, even with ample visibility!
You are welcome to stop by for a beer as you head back to Chch after crossing Arthur's Pass, just drop me a PM and I will give more details.
