Infernal Jag Inboard Brakes
Okay - I should have known better - British brake design where all of the relaease bolts etc are on the inside including brake lines. Oh no
I need help PLEASE.
I have a rear inboard spewing fluid out so obviously the caliper needs to come off.
Problem is I can't get it off
My Jag friends say that there are two horizontal bolts on the inside (that'll be right). Found one (lower side), but can't see any others!!!!
Released the top two bolts from the handbrake assembly, but caliper only moves upwards (with force).
Where is the infernal second horizontal bolt and if there is'nt one how do I get the thing off - split the caliper

I hate to be one to say it but you may have to drop the diff to get the other bolts out.
I have a removable cover in my boot to get to the diff and brakes but those bolts were still a big pain in the arse. I had to get a ratchet spanner to get them off and it still took an hour.
May be able to remove the handbrake assembly and get to it from under the car but it will be tough.
I'd pull the diff out and do the full vented rear conversion and fix the caliper in one hit.
Good luck, I know first hand that you will need it.

Oh Pete, You do have a job ahead of you.
As you have been told, there are two bolts holding the caliper on the diff center.
Unfortunately, they are vertical ( ie one above the other) about 100mm apart. Whats worse is that they enter from the diff side ( ie the inside)
They go thru the caliper and into an ear on the diff/axlel bearing retainer. Whats worse, is that they will have some wire thru the heads to prevent unwinding. ( or should have)
How much access you have on the DRB is anyone's guess but certainly on the RMC it is near impossible to do the job with the diff in the car.
Maybe it's best to drop the diff. This sounds drastic but may be an easier job than trying to get the calipers off whilst in the car.
The diff is held in the chassis by 4 bolts on top of the pumpkin. The shockies as you know is only remove the top mounting pin. Trailing arms I'm not sure about with the DRB. Apart from hydraulic lines etc thats all there is to remove it.
Drop it out and do a good job..while your at it....get vented rotors from Don pilling and closely inspect the diff seals...specially the axle bearing seals..the heat from the calipers tends to prematurely stuff them.
Now you know why uncle Les is taking so much time to finish his build......he has been there...done that and now has a removable section of boot floor to provide access for just this very problem.
Maybe some of the DRB folks can help further but this is my experience Pete....sorry

Where is the other horizontal bolt?
Removed the lower one, but can't see or even feel the upper one
Your right - it is a pain in the a%4e.
Seriously thought about dropping the rear end, but thought no there has to be another way - May be not!!!

Does vertical mean horizontal? The bolts your on about with the wire in them (there's no way the wire's going back in) are horizontal into the diff ear.
Lower one loose - can't find the other!!!

Pete...the bolts run horizontally...but one is 4" above the other.
And....dont make the mistake to leave the wire off...those two bolts are all that hold the caliper on and a bit of brake chatter and they're loose.

Pete, the vented rotors from Don Pilling are the same as Jason and I have on our cobs....Don is now an agent for Jagayre in Melbourne.

Peter, check my pics, it's probably worth
it to drop the rear end and install the rear mount caliper brackets, I forgot where I purchased the kit but, it came with the E-brake kit as well. Simply pull a cotter pin and use your fingers to replace the pads. There is a another way, I know a fella that cut an access hole behind the seats and installed removeable fasteners to hold
the panel, it works great if you don't want to drop the rear end.

Tidy job Perry.
Replacing the pads are'nt a problem, but obviously the caliper is!
Your arrangement would be well worth considering rather than cutting a hole in the floor.
Can't understand why Jag did'nt have that arrangement from day one.
British cars - "make it hard so that you have to go to the dealer for any problems".

Well would you bloody believe it
Laid under the car thinking what am I doing here, looked up and saw what seemed to be a false bottom just behind the rear firewall
Okay - made a mess of the boot lining searching for it, but hey presto found it.
Sooooo nice to look at the calipers from the top.
Oihhh Les - found that vertical come horizontal bolt.
Now to get on with the work in hand.

Moral of the day -
"If you have rear inboards make sure you have a false bottom"
The previous owner was a Jag fanatic so obviously realised the problem regards access.

It all makes sence
It looks very different from different angles
I have cut holes in the back wall for easy access also mounted speakers into the holes
Has been done principally for access to the brakes owww life is much easier
