Had a similar problem with mine (exasperated with the QLD weather)
When I had the cockpit reupholstered took the opportunity to line the footwell with insulation matting.
Vastly improved things - now I have the soft feel of leather rubbing my left leg
Prior to having the matting fitted (which is easy enough to do yourself (cut it and stick it) I was thinking of insulating on the underneath are of the car, but did'nt need to

Alvin,
I glued thermal insulation( shiny aluminium /woven fabric) to 1.5 mm aluminium sheeting then attached this to engine side of footwells with 5mm air gap.
Seems to work OK.

Recommend never wrapping your exhaust. Depending on your tune it will most likely thermally fatigue the metal, and as well, it often becomes a rust trap.

On a DRB 2000 with a EFI Windsor you have to wrap one of the header pipes (vertical section joined onto header) as very close to starter motor solenoid.
Far rather pay for a short length of exhaust than a new starter motor every year.

Thermal problems
I have used Kawool, not sure how you spell it, but its white and a bit like fibreglass batts, quite dense will never burn, can be wrapped around a boiler stack etc.
I made an aircraft alloy firewall with 5mm stand off bobbins and fitted Kawool behind it - absolutely NO heat gets through....period!
Another way maybe a good fireproof silver side heat resistant material, that can be glued on and supported by alloy strips either riveted or whatever, like a lot of original Cobras have around the foot box.

Phils idea has traditionally proved to be the best solution to the problem.
Exact same solution for those running under car cats...thermotec between the floor and an aluminium heat shield above the cats. Sure saves melting ya carpets, or the butt of ya passenger.

Ring John Cini.
He put me onto to a thermal company in Altona Melbourne. They supplied 2 m square of thermal blanket at under $100. As used in the refineries.
I used it under all of the aluminium and as a heat shield as mentioned above. I also glued it inside the upper guards and there is no heat there now.

FYI.
On the little old Superformance we have the front Air holes ( small oval grills left and right of the mouth ) plumbed up with a rubber boot that pipes cool out side air into the foot well, creates a nice breese amongst your feet and helps circulate the air in the cabin.

Alvin, You might try powder coating headers. Should reduce engine compartment temp by 50 degrees.

Take a look at what I did. I sold a cobra that had a lot of heat coming out of the pedal area. I put a flash light down by the gas pedal and fixed the holes where light came though. It fixed the heat problem coming into the cock pit where wires came into the cock pit, steering column, under the dash etc. I also have air conditioning.
In the pictures of my new car in my gallery I put extra insulation padding behind everything surrounding the engine compartment. I also insulated under all the carpeting. You can check with Gordon Levy (480-446-8442) about the material. I hate the heat coming into the car and living in Phoenix when it is 115 you.....well you just die in the heat.

Just looked at your gallery. The Cobra looks good.
Thought the FFR body came attached to the frame..
I also insulated under the aluminium floor and footwells. Surprisingly cool. Have taken the shine off with WD40 and a scrub pad.
