Ugly Duckling Story
Hi All,
I'm on holiday at the moment and have had a productive time in the shed lately.
As you know I'm a big fan of the LS1 engine but I'll be the first to admit that in standard form it isn't the prettiest motor out there. Over the last few weeks I've been trying to turn the ugly duckling into a swan.
Here's the before:
And here's what it looks like now:
Cheers

The "Datrk side" looks pretty bright
Hey Mike
That looks great. Keep "Posting" those type of pictures and you will have more on the "Dark side" there.
More "Dark side" converts..
Will try and catch up over the next few weeks.
Have a good break and importantly have a great New Year.
Cheers
Bernie
More on the "Dark side" - ????? Is that possible

Mike,
while Im here theres a couple of other questions.
1.I notice a strange arrangement of holes drilled into your body where the bonnet locks would attach to. Could you post some pictures of your setup?
2.Ive noticed under the camera icon next to my name is
(Senior Club Cobra Member). Do you or anyone else know where that came from? I didnt put that there.
Regards.

Careful though, as she gets better looking

Come on Mike, stop makeing it look pretty and get her going first.
Mando, you became a senior member when you hit 100 posts.
Another question for you Mike, where did you get the lower steering rack uni joint from?
And did you say the steering shaft you made was from "bright steel"?
While I am at it, can anyone tell me who sells rose joints?

Anyone notice ledge has been stuck on 99 posts since at least the 12/12 in the 0 thread Must be a spring chicken to not make the SENIOR status.
Boxhead rose joints are avail from industrial suppliers such as Blackwoods and also bearing suppliers. Some performance automotive suppliers also.

Maybe you need to be over 100 years old and have made over 100 posts to qualify

It sure is pretty, BUT , do you guys do everything backwards down there ?? First, the steering wheel is on the wrong side, now the distributor is on the wrong end.

Hi Mando,
I didn't like the idea of the locking cam running directly on the glass as Ian does them. So a while back I machined up a billet locking plate setup. It bolts in to that recessed area and the cam from the bonet lock slides under a recessed section.
Here's a pic
Cheers

I'm pulling finger. Nearly got the roll bar setup finished today then the body comes off again.
I got my steering uni from Ian but he doesn't do these nice billet ones any more. I'd be talking to a couple of the hot rod hardware places to see if you can source one.
The shaft is made from bright steel. It machines much better and should be stronger than plain old black or mild steel. It's still a mild steel but it's been aloyed with a few other elements.
I've been buying QA1 rose joints from Austrack Motorsport in Sydney. Good quality chrome moly teflon lined rod ends at reasonable prices. Possibly cheaper than the plain old industrial ones you'll buy from Blackwoods.
Cheers

Coils will be on the end of the foot boxes about level with the spark plugs. I'm machining up some new brackets for them and the wiring will be out of sight inside the foot box.

Hi Mike,
Keep up the good work, it looks great.
My brain has stalled so I'm pinching some of your ideas.
Hope you don't mind
Dale.
