Default New photos on my gallery



Thanks to King Jason I, there are new photos on my gallery.



Now that I have learnt how to make the pictures smaller, all I need to do is get them across over onto the gallery. It's taken me 12 months to get this far - give me time..

Thanks again Jason for doing this...

Just a few of the Cobra at the Nationals and on the trailer at the back of the V8 Ford ute at Dougs shed in Lilydale.

Bernie,

looking great. I recall all those messages where you were working on the Aluminium. That is some very, very nice handiwork.

One question. I have always mounted NOS bottles, nose down.... Does it make a difference? I thought it did.

Looking forward to lining up next to your beast one day.

Looking really good Bernie.

Cameron,

If you were running just a regular gas bottle from CIG you would have to run it nose down to get liquid N2O out of it. All of the automotive Nitrous bottles from companies like NOS and NX run a syphon tube to pick up the liquid N20 from the bottom of the bottle. Makes the bottle easier to mount.

Hey Mike

(My first post)

I made a mistake when I told you that LSEdit could do an ECU for $600.00.

I called out there today and naively said "give me one"!
They said "no no. That's not how it works".

A very helpful guy called Mark explained it all carefully and slowly to me (which as you know, is the only way to do it with me).

There are two options, he said.

1. Get an ECU and engine loom from a wrecker (for how much?) and they would do the rest at a cost of approximately $3000.00.

2. Buy a Motec M800 ECU ($3493.00) and a loom ($431.00) from them plus $1200.00 labour plus $1200.00 dyno tuning (total $ 6324.00) and away we would go - probably fairly quickly, I imagine.

How does that sound? I thought perhaps I should buy a Bentley all ready to go.

Hi there Phil, I have just last week modified my wireing loom (I too am useing LS1 power (dark side))
I bought a loom, alternator, starter motor and ecu to suit VY manual gearbox car, at a cost of $700.00.
I have been talking to some LS1 tuneing guys and they can send me a mail order ecu (exchange for mine) at a cost of $400.00 that has had the VATS (immobiliser) switched off and remapped to run better (not as good as with car on dyno but due to my location my only other choice is to fly a tuner here, not keen on that idea incase it doesnt start first go).
Once it is running then I will fly a tuner up.
So for a cost of $1100.00 I should be safe to start the car.

That sounds very expensive. What do you get for your $3K?

You can buy a new engine loom directly from Holden for about $300 if you talk to the parts guy nicely.

There are a few options for the ECU. You can buy an ECU outright with an HSV R8 program and the VATS disabled for about the $500-$600 mark. There are a couple of places offering these in Melbourne.

At this stage I'm set on getting an ECU from Dicks Electronics. They have developed a modified ECU and a software suite that enables you to change the settings in the ECU real time and has full data logging much the same as a MoTec. As far as the authorities are concerned it's the factory ECU so meets all the emissions rules (as long as they don't look too hard at the ethernet port in the side).

The big advantage of the real time ECU over LS1 Edit is that you can tune on the road with a lap top PC. LS1 Edit requires you to make changes and the re flash the ECU which requires a programming loom and can't be done on the car.

At this stage the real time ECU is only available to tuners at a hefty $20K price tag. However They will be releasing a single user version soon that will go for about $1200.

I'll keep you posted.

I'll do some more homework.

Incidentally if you both have Gen 111s and T56s and CRs, would it be safe to say we all would have the same length drive shaft?

Or is it too risky to assume that?

Yes, too risky to assume on the drive shaft. I've got a Holden GTS diff center in mine and the pinion length is different. Best bet is to measure it to be certain.

The company that's developing the real time ECU is Dicks Electronics.

Hi Paul,

Didn't notice you with the camera. Yes sure, if you like just place them on your gallery.

Jason (King Jason I) very kindly has "Posted" my photos that I emailed to him. So I have a few of the cars at the South Australia club day.

Thanks again for looking after me. A free BBQ lunch, a few complimentary beers and to top it off, I took home a "People Choice" pack of tyre and wheel cleaner.

Aussie Mike has answered the NOS bottle mounting for me.

I could not have done it better..

Yes, the automotive bottle from NOS have a pick up that allows the last little bit/amount to be used. I have seen them in all types of positions and brackets, with blankets etc. on them.

I have a 100HP jet into the side of the manifold. It hits hard and best at 3500 - 4000rpm. and feels like you are getting pushed then it kicks in and I slide everywhere. I button down for 2 - 3 seconds.

I cannot control the car as it is. So its a real on wet grass feel. Would obviously work better with 4:11's and slicks in a straight line. This is what it is designed for, I guess.

Thanks, yes is fun until I run out of gas..

Was told today that the fines for running it on the street are very steep. May need to re think it..

It involves fines and confiscation of the vehicle..

Bernie,

I haven't brushed up on the latest laws, but in days of old, the key word was 'driving on public roads with a NOS system connected'. So if you are able to disconnect the system, then you are in effect just transporting it.

I will check the latest before connecting mine!!
