Mando....It largely depends on two things.
The circuit your switching and the quality of your switches.
Relays are primarilly used for high load applications....Radiator fan, headlights (depends on switch), wipers, fuel pumps, horn etc.. Especially anything which has a motor involved.
In some applications ( ie. my vintage heater/demister) the switches provided are of a heavy duty nature and rated well above the draw of the blower motor so I am not using a relay for it.
However, If I was using a puny little lucas switch to turn the blower on then I would definitely use a relay.
