Default Hot FUEL

I had reason to get under the Cobra on the weekend just after an hour or so drive. I noticed the fuel tank was pretty warm and it got me thinking about the impact on performance of hot fuel.

I am running a big Bosch external fuel pump with a return line to an internal tank swirl pot.

As the Bosch pump is rated for 800 odd HP and most of the time I'd be lucky to be using 100 HP I figure most of the fuel is just going around in circles getting warmer on each journey through the engine bay.

Series 2 Jaguars used to have a fuel cooler that used the AC to cool the fuel before it went back to the tank so Jaguar saw this as an issue.

Has anyone else seen this as an issue? and are there fuel coolers available? I suppose I could run the fuel line through the esky (chilly bin) as long as the beer didn't heat up.

The more throttle you use, the less fuel gets returned to the swirl pot, the remaining fuel stays cooler. Win - win situation !

The guy that dynoed my motor also builds V8 Supercar engines. They've datalogged fuel temps (using more than one big Bosch), and they've never been concerned about it. I've seen some billet fuel filters that have the heat soak fins like amplifiers. That'd make a small difference, alloy fuel lines might dissipate a little, but overall I wouldn't be too concerned.

Craig Hasted dynoed the motor ,but it was built in California. Craig has a Superflow engine dyno, but no chassis dyno. I was VERY happy with the tune he did on my car.

An option for a chassis dyno is Mark at Stafford Tune. He is the Motec Qld agent. Apparently, he is very good. Obviously his tech knowledge of Motec products is outstanding.
