Question CSX numbered cars in Australia

Hi all

After starting a recent "Thread" asking about aluminium/aluminum bodied cars available in Australia, I thought that it would be timely to ask...

Who has a genuine CSX numbered Cobra in Australia and who has an aluminium body.

We have seen the recent sale of one or two Cobras carrying a CSX number with John Blandens Cobra sold and a 427 bodied Cobra being sold at auction just recently.

But curiousity has the better of me. I, like many of you have been told at shopping centres, car shows etc. that this neigbour has a genuine Cobra in his shed at home.

So its now time, to flush these CSX # Cobra's out. No addresses just car CSX numbers and basic details would be a good start.

I will ask 'Nedsel' - on this forum - to come on and add his knowledge. Ned is a highly regarded historian and archive keeper for Shelby American Auto Club. He also owns two CSX vehicles and has a wide knowledge. He may be able to come on and assist.

Let's see if we can get Ned on here and you guys adding your bit as well, who knows we may find a genuine Cobra that has been missing for years.

The second question is, who has built or owns an aluminium bodied car, either a CSX 4000 series, a Kirkham or a G Force etc.

Lets see what happens. Remember privacy is important, so no addresses....or they may come looking for me.

Cheers

Bernie

Photo of the original blue right-hand drive 427 street car mentioned above. Don't know who the new owner is? It was at the Brisbane Motor Show, so maybe a local... Rumoured to have sold for $480. Price range when listed for sale was $450-$550 from memory. Needs a ground up rebuild.

David Bowden also owns a couple as well.

COB 6033(Ron Thorpe's original race car)
CSX 2101

And of course GT40 # 1034.

For all info and images check out this link(saves me posting my photos of them):

Hi Craig,

Yes that's the Cobra that I thought was sold in Sydney. So there you go that's accounted for.

Did not realise that they would put the CSX # on the registration label like that..

Just had a look at their site (Bowden's). Would make a good garage tour??

Have you guys had a tour of the garage there?

I saw COB6033 at the Melbourne F1 GP.

Interesting car with a bit of racing history. Quad Webber 289 hiding under the hood. Sounded good on the track too.

Cheers

On the car registered cob6033 is the molded on bonnet scoop standard or was it added at a later date?

It was a 289 roadster but when it was racing they brought over a bunch of bits to spec it up the same as an FIA car. That's when it got the Webbers and the bonnet scoop to fit over them. They also flared the guards and put the bigger halibrand pindrives on.

Cheers

Bernie...This is not a CSX car but is an alum cobra in Aussie land.

It is a g-force and is advertised on their web site for sale at $85,000 ready to drive away.

http://www.gforcesportscars.com.au/f...e/forsale.html

Dunno who owns it ... ask g-force next time you're close to the council phone.

HMMMM polish all that alloy up.

It would be even better if there was a polished alloy gen III under the bonnet.

As Bowden doesn't seem to have a decent photo of CSX 2101, thought I would post one of mine. Taken at 2003 Noosa Classic.

I'm probably wrong, but I thought 2101 was the blue / white striped slabside that they had at the Shelby featured day at QR last year....

I've heard it rumoured that Bowden paid $900k for COB 6033. While I was trying to confirm that info, I found this.

"...from an anonymous private collector come a Bizzarini coupe, Jaguar E Type, AC Cobra 427 and Ferrari Daytona Spider". That's the guy that bought CSX3150. Our very own mystery man...

I've got another original 289 Cobra that I know of in Aussie land. Will dig up the photos.

I thought David Bowden only had 2 Cobra's. 2101 is one of his, so I always assumed it was the red one with funny grill.

Craig (400TT),

2101 started off black - mind you, we all change our minds at some time.

Our colour is blue (cruiser, echo, Cobra).

The nos of times I've missed a bargain simply because it was not blue!

OK, here is the last Cobra I have seen. I assume it's still around, although haven't seen it for years. It's COB 6114, another right hand drive 289.

Sorry about the poor quality pic, I can't find my nice still photos of it. Photo was taken at Lakeside raceway(QLD).
