Yes I went looking for it. Found it.
Its looks like the same article on the Ratcliffe Cobra and some comparisons and basic write up.
The owner idicates that its his retirement fund. Now its sold I guess he is retired...

Your definatly right Pete. By my reckoning there is or has been at least ten, I don't have all the chassis no's but here's a list of what I know of or have read about.
1. Red S/C 427 owned by Peter Briggs of York Motor Museum in W.A possibly the one SVO429 refered to at Geelong in '92
2. Blue S/C 427 owned by ex QLD newspaper magnate - appeared in '97 Indy Car parade.
3. Blue street 427 CSX 3150 rego JXH-772 David Ratcliffe
4. AC 289 Sports NSW reg ESX-039 featured in '68 Sports Car World magazine ( I still have the copy )
5. Yellow 289 that appeared in Aussie movie "Running from the Guns" again possibly the one that SVO427 referd to that he saw 28 years ago.
6. Red 289 owned by Cobra Car Club Member in NSW Southern Highlands (name with held) Has appeared in Aust Classic Cars.
7. Red 289 CSX 2101 David Bowden Unique Cars article May '03
8. Blue + white stripe 289 CSX 2105 Unique Cars article May '03
9. Green 289 COB 6033 ex Ron Thorpe/John Blandon.
10. Light Blue 289 FIA replica built by John Olsen NZ. I saw this car at a NSW club meeting in '95 - awsome.
Another article I have read claims a 427 in wraps in Melbourne, might be the one snaken talked about.
Now, wouldn't that be a sight to get them all together.

Bill
I can remember all the jokes, little sayings and jingles all from school.
Now I just could not remember the science formulae...
Hell, who wants to be a brain surgeon anyway.. ..could not take the salary cut.
Back to Cobras' the one that may be under wraps in Melbourne just could be the car with the map on the door..
Cheers

We only remember what we deem to be important.
Like the dimension of stripes and the spaceing of rivets.

PCC - I'll order one chassis in stainless then, thanks !
Actually, I might "weight" for an OZVENOM alloy chassis instead.

Aussie Cobra's
Just Surfing through the web and came across this thread with a few of our Cobra's on it.
From what we know there are 7 genuine CSX, COB cars in Oz..
1& 2. Our two cars, COB 6033 and CSX 2101, Both fantastic machines and much loved. Plans are to respray 2101 back to black soon.
3.COB 6114, from the sports car world article in '68, lived in Queensland for a long time and is now in good hands in Melbourne.
4.Yellow, now blue car that was apparently sold to the UK recently, but i hear it is still in Melbourne. Without looking it up in the registry I am sure it is a COB car as well.
5.CSX 2105 lives in Queensland, blue with white stripes.
6. 427 S/C here in Queensland as well, blue with white stripes. It has not seen the light of day for a few years now.
7. Blue 427 CSX 3150 now lives in Brisbane with a well known historic racer.
The Briggs S/C has sadly left the country and the 289 Cobra in NSW is actually an AC Ace with a 289........
So 5 cars in Queensland, 2 in Victoria.
Maybe we should organise a visit to our collection one day for the Cobra/ GT40 owners in Queensland? Whoever wants to organise this feel free to contact me at dan@bowdensown.com.au
Cheers,
Dan Bowden

Thanks for the info Dan...
Why are most of the real cars in Queensland?
If anyone is going to take Dan up on his offer, please make it the 1st Sunday in July, as I will be in QLD (Mooloolaba - just down the road from the Bowden collection) - I would love to meet the QLD contingent (oh, and get to see the Bowden collection..... )

To our American bretheren who are not familiar with this extensive collection of Australian muscle cars together with some internationally recognised classics..have a look at this:
http://www.bowdensown.com/cars/cars.html
Dan, You better get some of your car care stuff out because there is gonna be heaps of drool over your cars when we come visit.
Thanks for the invite, I'm sure one of the committee chiefs will contact you.
Cheers

Hmmm why are most of the cars in Qld... I think it may have something to do with the weather.. But then again, as I sit here writing this it is a bit wet outside today.
In reality there are a number of reasons, main one is a very well connected Brisbane based car broker, who is good at finding enthusiastic owners.
Looking forward to having a run up here, it just has to be organised through a club as that is the way we can get coverage for the ever important third party insurance.
It takes about three hours to do a "tour" of our main shed with about 40 or so cars in it.
As many of you would be aware we do not open the sheds for the public, so it should be a pretty memorable day for those able to come along.

Hi Dan
Do you know for sure the nsw 289 is actually an Ace? I've only seen it close once and was'nt looking too hard, but do recall speculation at the time regarding its origin.
I have some photo's of it and the book "Restoring AC Ace & Cobra" in which a lot of the visual cue's ie dash layout, including switches, steering wheel etc, wheel arch flare, grill, overriders, match that which the book depicts as an "early" 289. The only descrepancy i can see from photo's is the transmission tunnel shape, doesn't seem to match either Ace's or Cobra's depicted. Some of these items are relatively easy to change, some quite painstaking. If it's not genuine, he's had a damn good go at the cosmetic aspect.
Some suggestions on recent threads to circumnavigate ADR's was to build an Ace under hot rod reg's and further hotrod it into a Cobra. Could just have been done already.

Bu&&er, I don't get up to QLD often, but will be in Redcliffe next week. Will have to keep an ear out for the tour date and see what I can manage.
Very generous offer Dan.

The AC is an Ace Bristol, not a Cobra. We looked at purchasing the car some time ago and found out the truth then. Research is the key to buying any classic car and we do quite a bit before purchasing any new car. Especially with a sizable investment you nowdays have to make in a Cobra.
If you look in the current Shelby Registry you will find another car in the USA with the same Chassis # as being "used" by the Aussie car........ The next edition of the registry should say more about this as Ned who looks after the Cobra part of it is quite devoted to getting to the truth on any suspect cars.
I know this will be a bit of a shock to the NSW contingent who know the car and owner. I really do not know why the car was converted, but it was done in the late sixties.

Dan,
I understand you've been in contact with Warren (the Qld Cobra Club president). Great to hear. Whatever the final date - I'll be there. Do you mind if we bring cameras and videos?
Regarding Frank M's 427S/C. Do you know the chassis number? I haven't seen the car since he took it to the Indy race in 1998(?).
I have a copy of a movie featuring the yellow small block car. It's certainly not treated gently in the movie...
