Hi guys,

Put my name down for next year. I had a ball.A special thanks to Jeff Bryant who towed me home after the clutch went to lunch.

It was great to put faces to the forum members and I look forward to the Nationals so we can do it all again.

The blown clutch is a good excuse to tidy up a few things I was not happy with.

You wouldn't believe the damage to the clutch plate. I'll ask mike to post some photos.

Hard to believe this happened in one go. There must be another issue that I will need to resolve before it all goes back together.

Now where is that catalogue on cams and strokers........

I Dunno... A bit of glue and some cardboard and it'll be as good as new.

This is a SPEC stage 2 Kevlar faced clutch with aluminium flywheel and is rated to 530ft/lb. Usually a good upgrade for LS1 Commodores running a cam and bolt on mods. A Commodore weighs in at about 600KG more than Phil's Cobra so we reckon there must have been a fault with this one.

First class PITA when that happens so early in the life of a new clutch.

Any thoughts as to why it happened?

Not sure yet. Phil suspects it's been slipping for a while since there wasn't much junk in the belhousing when he pulled the motor out.

We had better work out why it did it since I've got the stage 3 version (700ft/lb) and don't fancy buying a new one in a hurry.

I have asked CAPA for their input but I do not believe it failed due to one event ie the drags. There were no pieces of clutch in the bellhousing and I think it must have been slipping for some time.

In hindsight I did notice the take up point change at the time i had the dyno tune done. The clutch had only done a few hundred kilometers then. I put this down to bedding in but think that something may have happended then. Will never know.

So I think its been slipping and overheating for some time which led to failure of the facings.

I'll keep all informed .
