Shelby Festival
Come on guys I am dieing here, I need to see some pics.
Surely someone has a digital camera and a laptop?
I cant even work on my car, I was grinding some bolts to mount my quick jacks yesterday and the bolt got caught in the grinder and pulled from my grip, well the threads of the bolt ripped past the back of my ring finger on my left hand and has peeled all the skin away from my finger nail upto the first joint in that finger.
It looks like I will have to cut off the flap of skin that was left behind.
It doesnt hurt much at the moment so I may go back out there tomorrow and finish mounting the quick jacks.
Any way back to the reason for this thread, Where are the pics?
Even my wife felt sorry for me yesterday when she remembered I was hopeing to be at Winton over easter and it had arrived but I was still here.

Hey Boxhead
I'm at home also, no injuries, but as always nursing a sore head after a night of Coonawarra reds.
How long does it take to get from Adelaide to Alice Springs. What are the roads like?. Are servos close enough for fuel and or LPG gas?
Any ideas for accomodation? What to see?
Bernie

It is about 1500kls from Adelaide to Alice, mostly speed limited to 100-110 in South Australia, but once you hit the border the speed limit is as fast as you can go.
Sadly that is only about 300kl of the trip.
There is plenty to see and do in this town, although a Cobra is probably not the correct vehicle to do most of it.
The road condition is fairly good and fuel stops are at worst about 300 - 400 kls apart (and expensive) I dont know how many of these stops have lpg or premium unleaded but the ulp is something I will be checking out as I intend to travel this road often.

I'm at home too......Buggar it!!!
Usually it's work that messes my social life...this time it was family.
Today I sulked in the shed positioning the scoop on the bonnet.
The fellas enjoying the weekend better be taking heaps of pics.

Shelby fest
What an awsome weekend. Circuit racing Saturday drag racing today a weekend to rival the Cobra nationals.
Tomorrow I'll download the photos I took out of my camera and resize them for display here.
For all those that didn't or couldn't go this year you should start planing to include the "Shelby Fest" in your next years calendar.
Cheers,
Bryan

Great job by all.
Well after 21 hours in the ute i am a bit stuffed . we left heathcote about 3:30 on sunday and decided to drive thru to Qld. we got home at 12:30 today very tired but glad to be home .
We covered 4000 odd klms in a week and had a blast .
Jason who travelled with me has over 300 pics from the trip so i will load some of them as soon as he getts them down loaded.
It was a fun trip look out in snake tails for a full run down on it.
I would have loved to have the beast there but you cant allways have what you want .
The ute never missed a beat the whole trip those lexus v8s are just the best .
We found every bit of windy road between Qld and the 12 apsostles. including the putty rd the alpine way to kankoban and the great ocean road. would have been a blast in the cobra though -2 degs in threadbo would have sort out the brass monkeys. and the best part is its on again nextyear.
Regards oz.

A new member.
I would like to welcome our newest member to the forum sir31 is the other Queenslander that travelled to the shelby fest. Jason is desperately saving all his coins and notes to get his first cobra .
He works for a jap parts importer so no prizes for guessing what will propell his new snake.
Great to see you here and thanks for the pics .
I dont like to see grown me beg for pics.
Regards oz.

I had a great time! I think this will shape up to be a must do event on the Aussie Cobra Calendar.
It was great to catch up with everyone. (Thanks again for the T-shirts Scott).
The racing action was excellent with everyone getting tons of track time and not a lot of waiting arround.
No bingles but a few breakages. Garrett lost a Gear box, Phil lost a clutch, Laurie Bongalias blew a head gasket and I think one of the NSW guys broke his engine.
Jason Millington's 2nd gear was playing hide and seek making for some interesting exits to corners. I Didn't know if I was watching Cobra racing or "Swan Lake" as Jason regularly pirouetted off the track.
A couple of highlights for me...
A drive in Phil's Cobra (Thanks for the inspiration Phil and for bringing me back to earth re performance mods). Awesome car and made me very happy that I'd bought a CR kit with LS1 for power.
The other highlight (and this is a biggie) was a drive on the Winton track in Garretts Cobra. This thing is a brute! I've driven a couple of times before on the street but never given it more than about 1/2 throttle. On the track I got to get a good idea of this things performance potential and all I can say is meer mortals like me need not apply.
The enormous power is intoxicating but at the same time terrifying. 2nd, 3rd, 4th gear full throtle down the straights left me almost laughing hysterically. Next I stand on the brakes to pull up for the corner and try then to finess the monster through the bend with my limited skills. Another straight sees my foot on the floor again and the gear lever being stired for another dose of insane laughter inside my helmet.
I now understand completely what Bill Cosby was talking about in his 200MPH routine.
Unfortunately to my horror on my 3rd or 4th lap the gear box cried enough and jammed in 4th gear. The last thing you want to happen when you are driving someones pride and joy is for something to break.
It turns out the weak link in T56 6 speed boxes when they are subjected to huge HP and Torque is that the keys in the 3rd-4th syncroniser bend or break. They are stamped steel and are a regular source of trouble. The other weakness is the 3rd 4th shift fork which is aluminium and can bend causing the box to pop out of 3rd gear. 3rd and 4th gear are the ones that are subjected to the most punishment in these boxes. 1st and 2nd cope OK since most of the time the wheels are spinning and they aren't under so much load. When you get into 3rd and 4th the wheels are more likely to grip so the box has to pass on all that torque.
Garrets car is in my work shop at the moment for a gearbox beef injection. Billet steel keys and a steel 3-4 shift fork developed for the Dodge Viper lemans racing boxes should see it coping with the extra torque.
I have to say a big thanks to Jason and Tony for their stirling efforts in organising a terific event.
I have to say an even BIGGER THANKS to all the sponsors who helped get the whole thing off the ground.
Cheers
