Have just sent some bits off to be sandblasted and it turns out that the guys (advanced sandblasting in Brookvale), is where Ian CR gets his chassis prepared, ie blasted and coated. Had a chat with the guy and he apparently did 2 chassis just recently. I think the next to go in may just be mine (bring it on)

BTW, whoever gave me the tip about POR15, great advice, really good stuff and you end up with a really nice finish. Thanks

My wife is happy also with her plastic card.

She lost it once or had it stolen. I didn't report it to the bank or the Police as the person who had was spending less than her.

Have fun getting those bits sorted and prepared.

Welcome to the dark side master Tenrocca.

Just looking at Phills times and the note from his CR last weekend was enough to put my mind at ease with my decision to buy a CR.
But with his clutch and the six speed problems my auto is looking good!!!!
Anyway the wait won't seem long as I'm sure all that cleaning and refurbishing will keep you busy.
I look forward to hearing how you go, and as everyone says don't be afraid to ask anything.

Take note of new user profile at left. Expected delivery end of Aug so a couple of months less then expected.

Churchy, your chassis is done mate. Looking as good as a few bits of steel welded together and painted black can look.

I'm not surprised at all about the Chev option for cobras for new builders. I'm sure you've all read the EPA thread and for those of us who live in Vic it gives us great cause for concern. As I said in that thread, a stock LS1 was competing with, I assume, warmed up Windsors that may have the EPA eyebrows raised. So I could go down the path of using an AU windsor (as my build started before 1/1/05 in Vic my ICV is exempt from current ADR's. Instead it must comply with 37/01) and mod it later and cross my fingers I won't get caught or put a Gen3 or even better a Gen4 (297kw stock) and not worry about the EPA about emmissions but instead just worry about the noise level. Boss 290kw is the other option but as has been previously discussed, it's a monster to fit. I know of 2 builders who have made them fit but the next problem is making them work with the standard ECU. I don't know it the smart shield problem has been fixed yet.

So that leaves Chev.

Anyone looked into Gen4 yet?

I didnt even have to tell Ian what engine I was putting in it. I dont think anyone requests anything else from what he said. A wise bunch of CR owner\builders out there

Ian asked me what engine we will be putting in, when we said LS1, he said great, so I think you may be right Tenrocca, not too many asking for other plants ups front

Can't beat the stuff Churchy...very durable too.

By the way...It's also unbeatable on raw fiberglass. Much more durable than gelcoat.

For areas like the underneath of body tubs etc..Nice black shiny finish. It really does finish off the raw side of fiberglass mouldings.

Congrats on your choice. With all the CR experience on this forum you wont need Ians manual .

Phil, I think I know the manual off by heart now anyway. Not that theres too much to learn.

one of the reasons I went Cr was so many people buliding it, hope to learn from all that experience (mistakes)

LS2...by the time Im ready should be a few around. unfortunately the "AC 366" number plate is already gone here in NSW

My initials...the cars initials...it was meant to be!!!

THE LS2's are available now from Eagle Auto at $9900.00.

400 HP outta the box. Gotta be happy about that.

Engine mounts are the same as LS1 (Gen 111)

Suburban imports are selling 2 versions. 400 hp @ $8900 and 345 hp at $7100 . Stupid questions:

1) Are both these motors available in Australian delievered cars and if so how do you prove they are the same thing?

2) 345 hp really is enough, isnt it?

The Suburban motors are both LS1's.

The 345 hp is your basic Gen 111 motor while the 400hp unit is the one out of the Corvette.

The Corvette motor is now priced at $8700.00.

Suburban dont have LS2's yet but will in the future.

I reckon 300 kw in a Cobra is just about right.

I assumed as with the models I mentioned that they were the LS2 as they were 6.0 l and it it states this will replace the 5.7 Ls1. Is there a 6 litre LS1?? Im so confused.

The LS1 6.0 motor is a truck motor and it uses a cast iron block. They are a popular starting point for big bore stroker motors as tey can take a reasonable over bore.

The LS2 uses much the same dimensions as the 6.0 truck motor but has the much lighter alloy block.

Just something to consider on the LS2. It uses a fly by wire throttle body like the Corvette. It also has a different generation of ECU which hasn't been cracked yet. there currently isn't any aftermarket tuning software for these motors. This probably isn't too much of an issue since by the time you come to fire it up there will be something available.

I reckon it wouldn't be to hard to adapt an LS1 ECU and wiring loom to an LS2 and convert the throttle body to cable operation.

These are the CAST IRON block version. Not what you want in your Cobra.The LS2 is all alloy.

The Darkside can get confusing but with a 300kw LS2 the force will be with you

One more post and question as Im climbing topwards that magic 100 posts and "Senior CC member" tag...

Regarding adapting a LS1 ECU to the LS2. To comply to ADR I will need a Australian delivered engine, including original ECU? How can your engineer or RTA tell wether the ECU is the "correct" one for that motor?
