Default Jaguar front end reconditioning

Hi all,

Pulled apart my jag series III bits and have a couple of questions.

One stub axle is showing signs if wear at the inner bear race position. Its about 0.1mm worn on one side (ie the wear isnt even the whole way around). Am I best off replacing this? If so, is there a trick for getting the axle out of the knuckle? Its jammed in there tight?

Also, Whats the wear tolerence on the rotors. Mine are down to 23mm beofre getting them machined.

Have got the calipers apart and am replacing all the seals. Repco wanted to charge $160 all up for the full set (Im pretty sure that was a little over the odds!!). Off to ebay, AU$36 delivered from the US. Ebay is quickly becoming my best friend.

Cheers,
Andrew

Tenrocca, I had to take my stub axle to a workshop and have the thing pressed out.

Easy to get back in, just tighten the screw, but getting out neede to be pressed

I got my seal kits from Western Australia.
Unfortunatly I dismantled my calipers and threw out what I thought I wouldnt need, I tossed out the round steel clips that hold the outer dust boot to the caliper, the new kits I bought didnt have new ones, so keep your old ones.
If your new seal kits have new clips I will buy the old ones of you if your gunna toss em out.

P.s Andrew, check your pm list I sent 1 about a week or so ago.

I got my seal kits from Thompson's (Part of Coventry group) $15 for 2 sets I think (rears).

I needed one new brake retaining clip, which cost $25 from a Jag outlet!!!!

Worth getting your inboards (rear) sorted before fitting to the car - major dramas otherwise thats presuming you have that setup.

HAHAHAHA you jag lover you.
The Classic kit uses the rear from an AU irs falcon (damn Ford part had ta find a way in there somehow)

I am yet to see how it feels on the road as mine isnt going yet.
But I am getting better at the Broom Broom noises now that I have a seat, a wheel, a gearstick and pretend dash.

Got the stub axle out using a pointy chisel and a baby sledge. One good swing got it in the end.

Still wondering though if the rotors have enough wear left in em or wether I should just replace them with newbys? Im guessing they will be down to about 22mm once machined?

David, seals kit came yesterday and included clips, so Ill send the old ones off today.

Man, the kits still 4 months away and Im already lovin this. Got the skinned knuckles to prove it.

Cheers.

Right there with you Tenrocca. Chassis is arriving on Saturday (I hope) and I am already into the second jar of hand cleaner. Front end and back end just about ready to bolt on.

Gotta keep the hands clean for my pen pushing during the week.

We are probably going to go with big Brembo's on the front, been out to race brakes at Wetherill Park and the guy seems pretty good and has already done a whole bunch of CR's.

Tenrocca, just sent you the reply to the PM. General forum answer. emails for PM, I never do either, but I have the option turned on... ???

PPC (POR15) I orderded from him and he delivered the next day, however if Barry sells it give your money to a forum member. I can certianly vouch for POR15, really good stuff.

One other point, I totally concer with "go the tahs", what a game on Friday night... arrhh when too much Rugby is not enough

Yes I got the clips on Friday afternoon, thanks for that Andrew.
I didnt get a chance to say so earlier as I had a quick trip to Adelaide (flew out of Alice 4.30 pm Friday and flew out of Adleaide 9.00 am Sunday)
If I was staying longer I would have made in known I was coming down.
I had to attend a function for Toyota and was put up at the Stmaford grand in Glenelg, Black tie formal event, they paid for myself and my wife to be there.
While we where there I saw rain for the first time since Goulburn (gotta love the Cobra weather out here)

No worries David. Just wanted to make sure They didnt get lost somewhere between here and the Alice.

Rain....what does that look like again. Were in for next level water restrictions in Sydney soon. I think what means you can only p1ss every second day.

I have always got an e-mail notification for PM's. Can't see any where in the control panel to turn it on or off.
